Warning: This article contains mention of suicide.

Over the years, many doctors and nurses have come and gone from Gaffney Chicago Medical Center in famed Chicago Med character April Sexton, and he was an emergency medicine resident at the hospital before his exit. Unfortunately for April, Noah got to live out her dream as their family paid for him to go to medical school instead of her. Nevertheless, April loves her brother deeply.

Roland Buck III, who played Noah Sexton in Chicago Med, is also known for his roles in The Week Of, Better Call Saul, and American Sports Story.

Noah struggled at the beginning of his residency as a medical student in Chicago Med season 1. He froze during his first day on rotation, and in an attempt to redeem himself, Noah took credit for Sarah Reese's work. With April's help, though, Noah stepped up to the plate, proving himself a reliable doctor at Gaffney, securing his spot as a Resident in General Surgery at the hospital. However, that all changed when Noah made a big mistake in Chicago Med season 6.

Noah Sexton Left In Chicago Med Season 6 Explained

Noah Was Fired

For the first five seasons of Chicago Med, Roland Buck III was considered a recurring cast member. In season 6, though, his role was reduced to guest, which makes sense, given that his character exited the One Chicago TV show in the fifth episode, "When Your Heart Rules Your Head." In fact, episode 5 was the only hour in season 6 that featured Noah.

Choi fired Noah for negligence, and April's younger brother left Chicago Med for good as a recurring character and doctor at Gaffney.

"When Your Heart Rules Your Head" featured Noah and Crockett Marcel attending to a patient who had previously helped his wife (who was suffering from a horrible disease) with assisted suicide. The man was also supposed to die, but emergency services saved him against his wishes. Noah was on his patient's side and believed the assisted suicide was an "act of mercy." So, Buck III's Chicago Med character left a lethal dose of lidocaine in a syringe by the man's hospital bed. However, Ethan Choi discovered what Noah had done and punished him severely.

Although he was conflicted at first, Choi ultimately decided to dismiss Noah from the hospital for helping his patient die by suicide. April begged Choi not to inform the police about Noah's actions, and he didn't, but the doctor couldn't keep him in the residency program. Choi fired Noah for negligence, and April's younger brother left Chicago Med for good as a recurring character and doctor at Gaffney.

Why Roland Buck III Was Written Out Of One Chicago

The Reasoning Behind The Actor's Exit Is Unknown

While the rationale behind Noah's exit from Gaffney Chicago Medical Center is clear, the explanation as to why Roland Buck III left Chicago Med is unknown (according to Looper). However, it boils down to two options. Either Buck III asked to leave the NBC medical drama TV series, or the writers felt as if it was time for his character to go.

Perhaps the Chicago Med writers and producers made a creative decision to write Buck III's character out of the show. The actor might have also wanted to leave. Whatever the case, at least Chicago Med didn't kill off Noah like it has other characters.

Can Noah Sexton Still Return In Chicago Med?

Noah Briefly Appeared In Season 8

Yaya DaCosta as April Sexton and Brian Tee as Ethan Choi getting married in Chicago Med.

Since he is alive and well in the One Chicago universe, Noah can still return in future episodes of Chicago Med. Roland Buck III briefly reprised his role as April's brother when she married Choi in season 8, episode 9, "This Could Be the Start of Something New." Noah was one of Choi's groomsmen, along with Marcel, Will Halstead, and Dean Archer.

It would be strange if Noah didn't attend his sister's wedding. So, it was only right that he got to return to the show. As for what comes next, the Chicago Med writers are clever enough to figure out a way to bring Noah back, but that doesn't mean they will.
