Summary
- Voight faces danger in Chicago PD season finale, paving the way for Antonio Dawson's return.
- Intelligence has been operating with a smaller team, struggling with a serial killer case. Voight's abduction leaves the team desperate for help.
- Jon Seda's comeback as Antonio Dawson in Chicago PD season 11 finale was teased when he was spotted with his former co-stars.
Jay Halstead's departure in Chicago PD season 10 was its latest loss, but Voight is facing another departure at the end of the year with Hailey Upton also leaving.
Before Voight loses his right-hand person, however, all eyes are on the current case, which the team's leader has been particularly invested in. Introduced in the latter half of Chicago PD season 11's run is the mystery of a smart serial killer, who ended up killing Noah. Voight and Intelligence could only do so much, with the lack of information about the perpetrator. Seeing Noah's body dumped inside a barrel brought back classic Voight in Chicago PD season 11, as he was determined to get justice. Little did he know that his persistence would eventually make him a target.
Chicago PD Season 11's Intelligence Needs Dawson Now More Than Ever
Intelligence Has Been Operating With A Much Smaller Team.
Ahead of the Chicago Fire season 11 finale, Voight was seen in custody of the same serial killer that he and his team have been hunting for months. Considering the suspect's penchant for torture and his ability to ensure a clean job, the Intelligence leader is in real danger for the first time in a while. Granted that Upton was able to determine that he was taken, the squad is way too slim to tackle their most challenging mystery in years. Considering what's at stake, they can use help, ideally from someone familiar with Intelligence, such as Antonio.
Antonio was also Voight's right-hand man during his time with the squad.
For context, Jon Seda was an original One Chicago cast member. Antonio left at the end of Chicago PD season 6, as he was shipped out to get some help for his worsening substance addiction. Behind the scenes, it wasn't really clear why he was written out. But aside from being the pioneering member of Intelligence, Antonio was also Voight's right-hand man during his time with the squad. Upton leaving frees up that spot. No one in the team is at the proper rank to fill the vacancy, hence why reinstating Antonio is the best way to move forward.
Jon Seda’s Chicago PD Return As Antonio Dawson Has Already Been Teased
There Have Been Clues Suggesting Seda's Chicago PD Comeback.
Aside from being needed narratively in the Chicago PD season 11 finale, there have also been other clues hinting that Seda may be ready to reprise his role as Dawson. For starters, the actor was seen reuniting with his former co-stars, Jason Beghe and Jesse Lee Soffer (who returned as a director in season 11), as well as new cast member, Benjamin Levy Aguilar, in what appeared to be the wrap party for the years.
Secondly, the end of Seda's La Brea allows him to return to One Chicago in a full-time capacity. After all these years, he maintains a good relationship with Wolf Entertainment, so bringing him back shouldn't be a big issue. Since Chicago PD season 12 is already confirmed, Antonio's return could help Voight's Intelligence to recover from Upton, not to mention his traumatic abduction, more swiftly.
Chicago PD season 11 finale airs on Wednesday, 10pm ET on NBC.
