Series star Patrick John Flueger reveals when Adam Ruzek and Kim Burgess' wedding will be in Chicago PD season 12 has finally decided to move forward with their wedding. The question now is, when will that Intelligence celebration go down?
Speaking with TV Line, Flueger confirms that Burgess and Ruzek will tie the knot in the Chicago PD season 12 finale. While he claims that he doesn't know the specifics of it, he shares that he is looking forward to how NBC and Wolf Entertainment will balance out the procedural's year-capper with whatever case Intelligence would be working on at that point. Read his full quote below:
"You can save the date for… the end of this TV season. I heard it’s going to happen in the finale. I’m touched that they think that it’s worth ending the season with it, but I don’t know how it’s going to go. I don’t know what the story is. I’ve always been fascinated to see how they do an episode of Chicago P.D. and have a proper wedding with all of the corn and cheese that that deserves.”
Why Burgess & Ruzek’s Wedding Deserves To Be Chicago PD Season 12’s Finale
Burgess & Ruzek Are Intelligence's Original Romantic Pairing
Currently, the One Chicago franchise is focused on its crossover event — the drama's first special in five years. In it, Ruzek will be trapped in an underground train with Chicago Fire's Stella Kidd as they do a rescue operation. The three-part offering promises to be an intense experience for everyone involved, so it's interesting that despite the harrowing experience, Burgess and Ruzek won't be rushing to get married right after the tragedy. For what it's worth, former Intelligence unit and partners, Hailey Upton and Jay Halstead did something similar in Chicago PD season 9.
Somehow, this proves that Wolf Entertainment knows how patient fans have been waiting for Ruzek and Burgess to get married.
Despite a longer wait for the occasion, saving Ruzek and Burgess' special day for the Chicago PD season 12 finale highlights just how integral their relationship has been to the show's storytelling. It also hints that it won't be a secret courthouse run like what Upton and Halstead did. Instead, it would be more akin to how Kidd and Kelly Severide tied the knot in front of Firehouse 51 in the Chicago Fire season 10 finale. Somehow, this proves that Wolf Entertainment knows how patient fans have been waiting for Ruzek and Burgess to get married.
On Flueger’s Concerns About The Wedding Happening In The Finale
Intelligence Needs Something To Celebrate
The Chicago PD season 11 finale brought back Alvin Olinsky via a hallucination while Hank Voight was on the verge of dying. It was the latest in the show's tradition of ending their years with their most intense cases, so Flueger's concerns about how that will factor into Ruzek and Burgess' happy milestone is not unfounded. That being said, the occasion is a great way to leave Intelligence, especially since the team has been lacking in of things to celebrate in the last several years. Maybe the romantic ambiance also leads to the birth of Voight's affair with Chapman.
