Starting Thursday, May 27, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox players can all take part in a free open beta test for first-person online slashing title, previews for Chivalry 2 have been widely positive, a good sign given the game's imminent release.
Announced during E3 2019's PC Gaming Show, Chivalry 2 originally boasted an early 2020 launch window. The team at Torn Banner Studios cited COVID-19 as one reason for the delay, though an update earlier this year said the extra time allows developers to focus on fully realizing their vision of Chivalry 2 as a "true sequel" to Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. Thanks to the protracted production cycle, Torn Banner has additionally worked towards implementing various quality of life improvements. The crew also expanded the core experience with content originally meant to release as post-launch DLC. Chivalry 2's previously promised horses remain on track for a post-release rollout, however.
In a dev diary shared via publisher Tripwire Interactive's YouTube page, Torn Banner Studios announced a free open beta for Chivalry 2 that will run from May 27 to May 31 on the Epic Games Store, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. As a cross-platform play beta, s will have access to a number of 64-player maps and modes. Furthermore, the beta will feature the sequel's robust customization options. And PC Gamer noted that PC players can expect to jump into exclusive 1v1 "Duel Servers."
The forthcoming beta test seems the perfect way for players to give Chivalry 2's intense combat a try without risk. It should also work to answer any lingering questions about the gameplay, overarching narrative, and medieval world.
Inspired by epic battles seen on film, Chivalry 2 aims to thrust players into various combat scenarios throughout the medieval era. Iconic moments such as castle sieges, violent sword clashes, and sprawling battles all underscore the multiplayer experience. And Torn Banner Studios has pushed the envelope beyond what fans may from the Medieval Warfare days. Updated combat mechanics allow for a far more fluid gameplay system, for example. The aforementioned wealth of customization options will see players craft their character's look, decide their personality, and choose how they sound on the battlefield.
Chivalry 2 comes to PC via the Epic Games Store, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on June 8.
