Actor Chris Evans has finally bid adieu to his will receive the iOS 16 update.
Chris Evans is probably best known for his portrayal of Captain America in several MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) movies including Avengers: Endgame in 2019. Evans started his Marvel career by playing the Human Torch in 2005's Fantastic Four and its 2007 sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. This year, Evans also voiced the titular character Buzz Lightyear in the Disney/Pixar animated movie Lightyear. He is one of the most-recognizable actors in Hollywood, which makes it even more surprising that Evans was using a smartphone released seven years ago.
Chris Evans took to social media late on Thursday night to share news that he was finally upgrading from his trusty old iPhone 6s. Evans didn't reveal the make or model of the new phone, but an image posted on Instagram suggests that it could be one of the newer iPhone models, possibly the iPhone 12 Pro or 13 Pro. In a tongue-in-cheek eulogy for the iPhone 6s, Evans said that he'll miss its physical Home button, but not its poor camera quality, the slow charging, or the abysmal battery life. He also posted the exact same message on Twitter, but without the image.
Upgrading From The iPhone 6s
The iPhone 6s may be old circa 2022, but it had a lot of useful hardware features that have long been deprecated by Apple. While Evans noted the physical Home button that made navigation real easy, the device also came with Touch ID (embedded within the Home button) that helped unlock it with a slight tap of the thumb. The iPhone 6s also had a 3.5mm headphone socket that allowed people to plug-in their wired headphones without the need for any dongles or adapters.
The yearly upgrade cycle that has become fashionable over the years not only puts a major financial burden on consumers, it is also an environmental nightmare. With millions of gadgets being thrown away every year and long before they reach the end of their natural life-cycle, the accumulating e-waste is creating an ecological disaster that is only getting worse with every year. Come to think of it, whether by design or not, Captain America was actually doing the world a great favor by holding on to his iPhone 6s for as long as he did.
