Christopher Nolan adds Josh Hartnett to his highly anticipated next film an unbelievably stacked cast that already includes Emily Blunt, Robert Downey, Jr., Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, and Rami Malek, whose announcements have trickled out over the last few months.
Deadline reports that the latest to is Josh Hartnett, cast in an undisclosed role. After hitting it big in the early 2000s with parts in Black Hawk Down and Pearl Harbor, Hartnett famously turned down the role of Batman in Nolan's trilogy in favor of starring in Mozart and the Whale. The actor, who recently had a lead role in Guy Ritchie's 2021 heist film Wrath of Man, now has the chance to work with the director, who's had him on his mind since then.
The film is slated for release on July 21, 2023. A slot Nolan occupied in the past with Dunkirk and The Dark Knight Rises to tremendous success. Nolan's virtuosic ability to make "event films" ensures there's never a lack of interest from Hollywood's biggest actors, so Hartnett surely won't be the latest Oppenheimer casting announcement for long.
