There are twelve main bosses in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 that are not optional and must be defeated in order to complete the main story. Many of these are Act 1 bosses, as the bosses in the later stages of the game are generally in optional areas, save a handful of pretty tough ones. As such, this list does not include any of the optional Chromatic Nevron enemies or side bosses in Clair Obscur. I've done my best at omitting major story spoilers from this list, but there will still be spoilers that reveal the main boss's names and locations.
WARNING: THIS LIST CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR CLAIR OBSCUR: EXPEDITION 33'S MAIN STORY!As you progress through each Act all the way up to the Clair Obscur character in your party build. The side bosses in Act 3 are considerably more difficult, so be prepared for a tough fight if you venture off the main path.
Eveque Is The First Main Boss
The Spring Meadows Boss Is Weak To Ice Damage
Eveque is the first main boss you'll run into as you start off your expedition with Gustave and make your way to the Indigo Tree. Eveque is weak to Ice damage, so be sure to equip Lune with Ice Lance and avoid using Earth damage against it. Eveque has a weak point in the center of its chest that can be hit with Free Aim shots to take out a big chunk of its health.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - Best Lune Build Guide (Skills, Weapons, & Pictos)
Lune is the second playable character you meet in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and her combat focuses on Elemental Stain effects that buff her skills.
Eveque only has a small move set, but will summon some minions to make the fight a bit tougher. It can generate a ton of shields, but Lune can use the Thunderfall skill to knock these off in one go. Eveque is a good test for your early dodge/parry skills, and practice makes perfect since most enemies of the same type have identical move sets throughout the entire game.
Goblu Is The Second Mandatory Boss
The Flying Waters Boss Is Weak To Lightning Damage
Goblu is the second mandatory boss fight and is found in Flying Waters once you reach Noco's Hut. Goblu does not like it when you pick its flowers, but there's no dodging this fight; entering the area will automatically trigger the cutscene and boss fight. Goblu is weak to Lightning damage, so Gustave's Overcharge Skill is extremely useful in this fight. Lune's various Lightning skills are excellent as well.
Goblu will summon flowers during battle that need to be hit with Free Aim shots or else they'll be absorbed and regenerate Goblu's health. Goblu will re-grow these flowers, so you may have to do this a few times to avoid losing your progress on his Health bar.
Ultimate Sakapatate Has Obvious Weak Points
The Ancient Sanctuary Boss Is Weak To Fire
Once you enter the Ancient Sanctuary and navigate your way through the maze, you'll run into the Ultimate Sakapatate, who has some pretty obvious weak points and is also weak to Fire damage. At this point, you'll have access to a decent range of Fire Skills such as Spark for Maelle and
Immolation for Lune. You can hit the Ultimate Sakapatate with Free Aim shots to knock him off balance and reveal its weak point on the shoulder.

How To Answer The Gestral Gambler In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
As you explore the Gestral Village in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, you'll find a gambler at the back of the area who has a tricky question for you.
Breaking its weak point will make its arm and shield fall off, giving you a much better chance at defeating it. Ultimate Sakapatate has a tricky attack that might take some practice to parry, and the final swing of this attack requires a jump dodge.
Francois Is A Boss In Act 1 Of Clair Obscur
Esquie's Bestie Is Weak To Dark Damage
After you make it to Esquie's Nest in Act 1, you'll have to eventually square off against his best friend and/or arch rival Francois. Francois is a hilarious boss that is completely locked in position, but don't let that fool you. Francois is capable of building up multiple shields, and he has a devastating ice beam that will almost certainly kill you if you don't parry or dodge, so be on your toes.
You can face off against Francois again much later in the game during Esquie's relationship quest, but you'll be on your own in a 1-v-1 duel.
Francois is only weak to Dark damage. If you're in your first playthrough, there won't be many options for dealing Dark damage aside from Sciel. I'd highly recommend taking her into this battle to melt Francois' Health Bar easily with skills like Twilight Slash .
Lampmaster Is Near The End Of Act 1
Shoot Out The Master's Lamps To Finish Act 1
As you near the end of Act 1 and reach Stone Wave Cliffs, make sure you've fully explored all the side areas around the Continent that you're able to before advancing into Act 2. There will be a major shift in gameplay at the end of Act 1, and Lampmaster is the final boss before transitioning to Act 2. That said, Lampmaster is a somewhat tricky boss that will be your biggest test so far.
While there are various moves and attacks to dodge, parry, and counter, it's essential that you try to shoot out Lampmaster's lamps whenever you can to make the fight a bit more manageable. Lampmaster has the ability to make you Dizzy, which effects Free Aiming by wobbling the camera as you attempt to shoot.
Dualliste Is Act 2's First Story Boss
This Boss Is Weak To Light Damage
Dualliste will be your first big boss fight with Verso unlocked, and you'll get a really great Verso weapon from defeating it, the Dualiso sword and dagger. Dualliste is found near the end of the Forgotten Battlefield, and he is a considerably more difficult boss than any of the main bosses you've dealt with so far. Dualliste is weak to Light damage, so skills such as Verso's Perfect Break or
Purification are big hitters.
Daulliste is a two-phase boss that can Invert you in the second phase with an Inverted Attack, which essentially turns any healing you try to do into damage instead. Be careful if you become inverted not to use any Healing Tints, and try to avoid any health regen as well or you won't last very long.
Stalact Is The Next Boss You'll Encounter
The Monoco's Station Boss Switches Stances To Change Resistances
The first Stalact you fight in Clair Obscur will pop up after you unlock Monoco in Monoco's Station. Upon trying to leave the area, a cut-scene will trigger and a massive Stalact enemy battle will commence. The Stalact is a primer for the side areas associated with Monoco's Station, particularly Frozen Hearts where you can optionally explore to unlock some excellent loot and access the Monoco's Station merchant inventory.

All Journal Locations In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
As you explore Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, you'll have to go into the darkest reaches of the Continent to track down all of the Expedition journals.
The Stalact is weak to both Fire and Ice damage depending on which stance it is in. It will switch stances at various points in the battle, and you'll need to use the alternate element to deal meaningful damage. Stalact has an earthquake attack that requires a jump dodge, and defeating it will unlock one of Monoco's first skills, Stalact Punches .
Visages Appear In Act 2 Of Clair Obscur
Take Out The Masks In Each Vale To Weaken The Visages Axon
You'll have the choice of which Axon to fight first in Act 2, but Visages is supposedly the weaker one that Verso recommends trying first. In the first stage, you will want to try to hit the eye weak points on the five different masks that emerge from the mirror. Once you do, the first stage of the fight will end, but not before Visages unloads his ultimate attack. Both stages of this boss, Visages and Mask Keeper, are weak to Fire and Dark damage.
Visages becomes the Mask Keeper in his second stage and has an entirely new move set. To weaken the Mask Keeper, you should go to each Vale in the Visages area to defeat the associated boss: Jovial Moissonneuse, Seething Boucheclier, and the Sorrowful Chapelier. Taking each of these enemies down will limit the extra abilities that the Mask Keeper uses to buff during his second stage.
Sirene Is The Second Axon You're Required To Fight
Defeat The Tissuer To Make Sirene's Fight Much Easier
The second Axon you'll be required to defeat in order to access the endgame and get to the Paintress is Sirene, located in a massive area with a few mini-bosses. While in the Sirene area, you will have to defeat Glissando, a worm-like enemy that will gobble you up if you die. Before defeating Glissando, you'll have the option to kill or spare an enemy called The Tissuer, and it's definitely worth fighting.
I recommend unlocking the Anti-Charm Lumina ive effect and equipping it on all your characters before this fight to ensure they aren't Charmed.
I highly recommend defeating the Tissuer because Sirene will be much easier to fight, and you'll get access to a crucial Pictos, the Anti-Charm Pictos. If you spare The Tissuer, not only are you missing the Anti-Charm effect, but Sirene will be able to buff her defenses and make the fight much tougher. Sirene is especially weak to Dark damage, so bear that in mind before entering battle against her. She has the ability to Charm you with the Ballet, so that Anti-Charm effect will come in handy.
Renoir Is A Reoccuring Boss
You Will Fight Renoir In Each Act
Renoir is a reoccuring boss that you'll fight at different stages in the game, the first being after the Lampmaster fight above as the White-Haired Man. In Act 2, you'll find him at the end of The Monolith, and he will have two stages, the second one having a bestial lion form to come in and help him out. You will see Renoir once again in the finale, but a lot will happen in between the Act 2 fight and the last showdown when you return to Lumiere.
Without giving too much away, all of Renoir's fights are relatively tough, especially the final battle. In the second fight against him inside the Monolith, be on high alert for Gradient Attacks and quick jumping attacks from his summoned lion beast. Renoir doesn't have any weaknesses, and defeating him in every instance is a matter of mastering your overall party build and dodge/parry timing.
The Paintress Is A Tough Boss The First Time Around
Defeat The True Paintress With Gustave's Homage
If you aren't in NG+, the Paintress is a pretty tough fight considering she has such a high Health bar, and you won't be able to exceed 10k damage. For that reason, you should take advantage of Maelle's Gustave's Homage Skill, which has 8 hits and deals a ton of damage if Maelle is in Virtuose Stance. The Paintress doesn't have any known weaknesses and has two phases. The Paintress's second phase is a bit more challenging and she will rip open a tear in the canvas to summon light missiles that can be parried with good timing.
After defeating her in her first and second phases, she will then enter a third phase, but will not attack your party at all. This will be the last required boss before the end of the game when you decide to enter Lumiere for the last time in Act 3 to face the last main boss. The Paintress is one of the final real challenges of Act 2, and once you enter Act 3, most of the bosses are completely optional, but I'd highly recommend exploring as thoroughly as possible before completing the final mission.
Renoir In Act 3 Is The Final Boss
The Final Showdown With Renoir Is A Doozy
When you finally decide to return to Lumiere and face Renoir for the final time, he's going to have a lot of new tricks up his sleeve. While his previous fights were tough, they're nothing compared to the finale. Renoir has added a Black Hole attack, a Void Cross attack, and Void Meteors to his arsenal, but he has also managed to summon the power of the Axons you defeated in Act 2. Renoir can summon power from Sirene and Visages to buff his defenses in this fight, with Sirene giving him health and Visages giving him shields.
Renoir can also summon the Dessendre Canvas to unleash a powerful second phase. Defeating Renoir the final time is not going to be easy, but believe it or not, he is not even close to the most difficult enemy in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. To face off against the hardest bosses, you can enter into NG+ after defeating Renoir by returning to an Expedition Flag. In NG+, you can upgrade your weapons to Level 33, inflict much more damage, etc., but you'll lose your side quest progression and any quest items, including all the records you've picked up.
