Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 contains many different secrets that can only be unlocked with a good idea of how to find them, with many that you would never know even existed without some sort of tip or hint. The best-kept secrets in the game are those that require deep exploration, and sometimes just some good old-fashioned gaming instincts.

!!! WARNING: THIS LIST CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR CLAIR OBSCUR: EXPEDITION 33 !!!Aside from the handful of secret bosses in Clair Obscur, there are many oddities throughout the game that can slip under your radar simply because you'd never think to investigate a particular area or hold on to a specific item. These are some of the nuances that make Clair Obscur such a unique and mystifying experience, and uncovering some of its deepest mysteries has been equal parts entertaining and maddening.

10 The Life Enjoyers

Don't Let The Gommage Stop You From Having A Good Time

Clair Obscur life enjoyers with sophie

The secrets in Clair Obscur start as soon as you kick things off in the Prologue, and there are quite a few things to do in the starting area before the festival. One such encounter is with some NPCs located inside a building in the Prologue, who are referred to only as the Life Enjoyers. There's a building behind Eloise, one of the NPCs in the main square, that can be interacted with, and you can hear a couple behind closed doors engaging in some X-rated activities.

Should You Purchase Excalibur In The Gestral Village In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33?

While perusing the Gestral Village Bazaar in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, you'll come across a muscular merchant who wants to sell you Excalibur.

Sophie will say, "Not everyone attends the Living Wake or goes to the Harbour for the Gommage. Some prefer more... intimate goodbyes." This is where most people will head out, but you can interact with this door 33 times in a row to annoy the couple inside and get them to give you 1x Colour of Lumina to stop being such a creep and ruining their good time.

9 Trash-Can Man

One Man's Trash Can Is Another Man's Perfect Hiding Spot

Similar to The Life Enjoyers, another well-kept secret in the Prologue comes in the form of a trash can. Many of the trash cans in the Prologue can be interacted with. Still, one has a glowing opening and is worth pestering beyond the initial dialogue prompt. If you inspect the trash can three times, you will trigger a conversation with the Trash-can Man.

Return to the Trash-Can Man's trash can in Lumiere during Act 3 to receive a special message from him, as well as a Perfect Chroma Catalyst .

This guy is convinced that hiding out in the trash is the only way to avoid the Gommage, which is both hilarious and tragic when you think about it. Aside from being a terrible way to spend his final hours, the Trash-can Man will reward you with 1x Chroma Catalyst, and only asks that you not tell anyone about his hiding spot.

8 The Wooden Stick

Excalibur: A Quest Item With No Quest

There's a supposedly excellent weapon called Excalibur in the Gestral Village that can be purchased at the Bazaar, and it is perhaps the most confounding item in all of Clair Obscur. A muscular Gestral merchant will talk up a big game about an Excalibur sword that can even shoot lasers, and you can purchase it from him for 1000 Chroma. If you decide to buy it, you'll receive the Wooden Stick , which is quite literally just a toy for Gestral children.

10 Hardest Bosses In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Ranked

There are many enemies and side bosses in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, including Chromatic Nevrons of all sorts - here are the hardest ones, ranked.

There is no known purpose for the Wooden Stick, despite it popping up in your Quest Items inventory. Many have speculated on its potential uses, but as someone who has invested hundreds of hours and completed four full playthroughs, I'm convinced it is just a gimmick to make the swindling feel real.

7 Secret Dog Room In The Manor

Jump Through A Painting To Find Murals Of A Very Good Boy

The Manor holds many secrets, with many trip switches and secret locks that open trap doors, hidden rooms, and more. One secret room is found by jumping through a specific painting located up the left stairs when heading into the Manor. On the left wall at the top of the second set of stairs, there's a red painting with some rubber balls and chew toys on the floor in front of it.

Sandfall Interactive's company dog is named Monoco, and is the inspiration not only for the character's name but is the dog featured in these murals in the secret dog room in the Manor.

You can jump through this painting to find the secret dog room in the Manor, and there's even a Shape of Life upgrade for your Revive Tint in there. There is a dog house and a bunch of murals on the walls for the family dog, and the room is very easily missed if you don't know it's there.

6 Shooting Mirrors

It's A Simple Trick That Pays Off Handsomely

Clair obscur Victorifo sleeping gestral

Whenever you see a mirror in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, I highly recommend shooting it with your Free Aim shot in the open world. In more than a few instances, shooting mirrors will unlock new loot or collectibles. For example, if you are wondering how to wake up the sleeping Gestral, Victorifo, look behind him and shoot the mirror. He won't be happy, but he'll be awake.

You'll have to fight Victorifo if you try to pick up the Chroma loot inside his hut, so make sure you're prepared.

This is not the only instance where shooting a mirror pays off. Once you enter the Manor door in Sirene, you'll find yourself in the Manor bathroom. You can actually shoot the mirror inside the bathroom to access a hidden age that will give you a Shape of Health upgrade. Be sure to look for any mirrors you can shoot while exploring.

5 The Crows

Shoot Every Crow To Face The Most Annoying Chromatic Nevron

Clair obscur Chromatic Chapelier

There's an area called The Crows on the western side of the continent, just south of The Reacher, and it's possible you went to this location and looked around without finding much of anything going on. However, if you shoot every crow in the area (there are over 20 of them), you'll trigger a boss fight with the most annoying enemy inClair Obscur, the Chromatic Chapelier.

This boss is a straight-up nuisance, with delayed attacks, skills that inflict obnoxious status effects such as Inverted, and it can dodge just about everything you throw at it. You have to rely on counterattacks to take this enemy out, but once you do, you'll be rewarded with the a unique weapon for Sciel, as well as the Shielding Death Pictos.

4 Isle Of The Eyes

Shoot Three Eyes To Battle The Chromatic Boucheclier

The Isle of the Eyes is a strange optional area in Clair Obscur that requires some puzzle-solving to clear. If you have explored the area already and couldn't figure out how to cross the bridge to fight the Chromatic Nevron on the other side, there's a trick to restoring the bridge. Similar to The Crows, the key to unlocking the area boss lies in the name.

There are three dead Contortionniste enemies around the Isle of the Eyes with moving eyeballs where their weak points would be. If you shoot all three of these eyes, the bridge will be restored and you can cross it to take on the Chromatic Boucheclier on the other side. This enemy drops the Facesum weapon for Maelle, as well as some upgrade materials.

3 Simon

Drop Into The Abyss To Fight The Hardest Boss In Clair Obscur

Simon is one of the few underwater with Esquie by advancing his relationship, and then you'll need to dive deep into an area called Renoir's Drafts. Once there, you need to get past the various tough enemies and ultimately find a second portal that leads to a hidden area called The Abyss.

10 Best Weapons In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

With so many weapons available in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 for each character, these 10 are easily the best options for a range of builds.

To get to Simon, you must walk off the edge of the bridge and fall into the abyss below. It's a long way down, but eventually you land at the bottom of a blacked-out area with golden swords, and Simon will be waiting next to a journal in the center. Simon is easily the hardest boss in the game, so you might want to return when you stand a better chance.

2 Blanche's Reward

Spare All The White Nevrons For A Motherlode Of Lumina Points

Clair obscur Blanche

Possibly one of the most missed rewards in Clair Obscur is awarded for completing all the White Nevron side quests in the game without killing any of them. This is particularly tricky because the game doesn't fully track all of your quests in the first place, and there is a specific White Nevron that outright asks you to kill him. When you come across the White Chalier Nevron in the Flying Cemetery, make sure you choose to spare him, otherwise you'll be missing out on some nice loot.

When you finally run into Blanche in The Fountain, he will take one of two actions based on whether you killed any White Nevrons. If you do kill any of them, you'll have to fight Blanche and will receive a few upgrade materials, but if you spared them all, you'll receive 100x Colour of Lumina.

1 Secret Baguette Weapon

The Best Kept Secret In Clair Obscur (That We Know About)

The best-kept secret in Clair Obscur that I know about is the secret Baguette weapon you can unlock for each character in the game. This is particularly tricky to get since you need to save your festival tokens from the Prologue to access a special interaction during NG+ in Clair Obscur. If you have festival tokens available in the starting area before the Gommage and festival, you can spend tokens at the bakery right after you meet Sophie.

You can get a Baguette weapon for each character, though I would argue these aren't that useful when you get your hands on them in NG+. Since the dialogue prompt isn't available unless you have tokens in your inventory and most people spend these at the festival, it's very likely most players will never even know the bakery can be interacted with, much less that it gives you a unique weapon. That's why the secret Baguette is easily the best-kept secret in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
