The thriller series Netflix's newest TV shows, Clickbait sensationalizes criminal impulses and drives its audience to question online personalities.
Told through multiple perspectives, the series centers on the kidnapping of father-of-two Nick Brewer. When videos of a captive Nick holding signs that say, "I abuse women," and "at 5 million views I die," become a viral sensation, Nick's sister Pia and wife Sophie race against a ticking clock to find him. The media circus that these horrific videos stir up throws Nick's innocence into question as an unexpectedly dark side of him is slowly revealed to his family. Like Post Mortem: No One Dies in Skarnes, Clickbait takes a number of surprising twists and turns, keeping the audience guessing who the real criminal is throughout the series.
One of the strongest aspects of the thriller series is its cast, whose many actors come from a background of high-stakes dramas with twisty relationships. Zoe Kazan and Betty Gabriel take the lead on Clickbait's domestic mysteries alongside Phoenix Raei's detective, playing off of each other well to intensify an already sensitive and wild story of crime and online relationships gone wrong. Here's our guide to the cast and characters of Clickbait.
Zoe Kazan as Pia Brewer
Pia Brewer, Nick Brewer's brash younger sister, works as a nurse by day and parties by night. Despite familial issues between both her brother and her sister-in-law Sophie Brewer, Pia goes full-detective in the The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018). She's set to co-star alongside Carey Mulligan in She Said (2022).
Betty Gabriel as Sophie Brewer
Sophie Brewer is the wife of viral victim Nick Brewer who desperately struggles with the hurtful truths surrounding her husband's supposed online life. She is committed and headstrong, but even the silent strength of a mother may not be enough to hold her family together. Betty Gabriel is one of the more recognizable faces in Clickbait, as the American film actress featured in a memorable performance in Jordan Peele's break-out film Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan (2018).
Phoenix Raei as Roshan Amiri
Oakland Police detective Roshan Amiri is the one initially in charge of solving Nick's disappearance, and the dedicated police officer works to discover where Nick is being held and why he was kidnapped in the first place. Throughout his investigations, Roshan contends with issues of personal involvement and racist ridicule within his own department, but he continues to informally work with Pia to solve the case. Raei has previously appeared in several Australian shows, including The Heights (2019), The Suicide Squad's Jai Courtney.
Adrian Grenier as Nick Brewer
The center of Clickbait's viral videos, Nick Brewer is a father who works at Merritt Sports Performance Center. The seemingly innocent victim goes through a wave of accusations, with the integrity of his character being questioned after connections to various women crop up online. Viewers will most likely recognize Entourage, and the Disney Junior animated show Mission Force One. His next project will be TV movie Cipher, directed by Peter Hoar.
Camaron Engels as Ethan Brewer
Camaron Engels is Sophie and Nick's oldest son, Ethan. When the videos surrounding his father's kidnapping spread like wildfire on the internet, he turns to a mysterious online friend AL_2005 to discuss the case and his trauma. He eventually realizes that he may have given up too much information to someone who was essentially a stranger, and this sets him on the path to unveiling AL_2005's real likeness - and the key to solving Clickbait's twist ending. Engels was most notably Romeo in the 2020 film R&J and Jeremy in Black-ish, and he'll appear in Ifeanyi Ezieme-directed short Scam Squad.
Jaylin Fletcher as Kai Brewer
Kai Brewer is the youngest of Nick and Sophie's two sons. Kai grapples with both the horrific viral kidnapping of his father and the unveiling of unpleasant secrets within his family, and it is through Kai that the show reveals the character at the center of the crime. The teen actor found his big break on the 2020 TNT drama Law & Order: Organized Crime, as well as a minor role in the family comedy series Coop and Cami Ask the World.
Ian Meadows as Matt Aldin
Matt Aldin is Nick's best friend and colleague at Merritt Sports Performance Center. Like Nick, Matt covers his secrets online, secrets that tie him both to his own dark tendencies and to Nick's kidnapping. Aside from this The Pacific and crime series Dead Lucky, but he's also known for his role as Rocco Cooper on long-running Australian soap opera Home and Away.
Elizabeth Alexander as Andrea Brewer
Elizabeth Alexander plays Pia and Nick's mother, Andrea Brewer, who is understandably shocked at Nick's disappearance. Alexander is an established Australian actress whose history dates back to 1967 when she appeared in the TV series Bellbird. She can also be seen in The Secrets She Keeps (2020), The Killing of Angel Street (1981), and Home and Away (2008).
Abraham Lim as Ben Park
Investigative reporter Ben Park ruthlessly delves into Nick's past over the course of the Netflix series, working to cover Nick's kidnapping for GBZ Online. It becomes clear that Park is determined to interview the Brewer family and utilize this viral crime to boost his own career. Abraham Lim was most recently in How to Get Away With Murder, ABC's 2019 drama series The Fix, and The Dead Girls Detective Agency.
Becca Lish as Dawn Gleed
Dawn Gleed is another one of Nick's co-workers. Cheerful at work, Dawn holds deep-seated confidence issues that eventually spiral out of her control. Gleed is most known for her work in Disney+'s Mrs. Fletcher. She's also set to appear in the announced TV film Yes, Mistress after Clickbait.
