Cloverfield in 2008, which was based on a script by Reeves and LOST's Drew Goddard.
The long-awaited third chapter in the Cloverfield franchise has been in development for almost six years. The film was first announced under the name God Particle in 2012, but people didn't start connecting the science fiction movie - directed by Julius Onah and starring Daniel Brühl, Elizabeth Debicki, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, John Ortiz, and more - to Cloverfield until the viral marketing campaign for 10 Cloverfield Lane indicated links to the International Space Station. Considering that Abrams' Bad Robot Productions is producing God Particle, a sci-fi film that follows a team of astronauts aboard the ISS that undergo scientific experiments, it was easy for the studio to retool the film into Cloverfield 3, just as they did the same with 10 Cloverfield Lane, which was originally just The Cellar.

Cloverfield 3 was originally scheduled to release in February 2017, but after numerous delays, it finally landed on February 2, 2018. Unfortunately, Paramount Pictures is pushing the film, which is now being referred to as the Untitled Cloverfield Movie, back one more time to April 20, 2018 (via Rampage, a live-action adaptation of the 1980s arcade game of the same name starring Dwayne Johnson and Naomie Harris.
The question now is, when will Cloverfield 3's first trailer debut? The Cloverfield franchise is highly regarded for its viral marketing campaigns. Longtime fans may that the first teaser trailer for 2008's Cloverfield screened in front of Michael Bay's 13 Hours in January 2016, mere weeks before the film's release that March.
Considering that the Cloverfield 3 is scheduled to release in April, it's possible that the first teaser trailer for the highly-anticipated follow-up will release alongside Alex Garland's Annihilation in late February. After all, Annihilation not only markets to the same crowd as Cloverfield 3/Untitled Cloverfield Movie but also marks Paramount's first major release of the year.
