Paramount has confirmed they are working on a true sequel for Cloverfield. The 2008 found footage movie about a monster attacking Manhattan directed by Matt Reeves and produced by J.J. Abrams with a script by Drew Goddard has only grown in popularity since its release. The film's Easter egg-filled marketing campaign and unique style earned it success at the box office and with critics - and years later launched an entire universe.

Eight years after the first film, the Cloverfield Universe (or Cloververse as it's lovingly called) expanded to include another title. The second movie in the franchise was God Particle and was changed drastically to fit into the new universe. Both these films contained only tangential connections to the original movie.

At CinemaCon, Paramount confirmed that they are "not in fact a Cloverfield film.

Fans have been clamoring for a true sequel to Cloverfield since the release of the first film. There are plenty of unanswered questions and places to grow the original story. A sequel would also ease concerns of some of the fans who disliked the latest installments or who are still struggling to figure out where everything fits in the universe. Both 10 Cloverfield Lane and Cloverfield Paradox connect to the original film in different ways and there is no telling what a new sequel would mean for these previous films and where they stand.

Abrams, Goddard, and Reeves have all spoken about having ideas for sequels over the years, but have been kept pretty busy working on larger projects (Pacific Rim and Godzilla being released. Hopefully this news means they've changed their tune. The most important thing in creating a Cloverfield sequel should be making the monsters organic to the story - not added in after the fact.
