When Cobra Kai first started out, the show focused on the age-old rivalry between Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Larence (William Zabka). Their built-up resentment was then mirrored by Miguel (Xolo Maridueña) and Robbie's (Tanner Buchannan) on-screen fighting throughout season 1 and beyond. But, there was another serious antagonism about to brew when a new character entered the scene to challenge a previously unchallenged Samantha LaRusso (Mary Mo).
Tory Nichols (Peyton List) showed up in season 2 with an edge and a lot of trust issues. She got close to Miguel, and then Robby, all the while, Sam was dealing with her own romantic entaglements with the boys. Completely different backgrounds and upbringings, plus the romantic rhombus that had developed, led to a lot of animosity between Cobra Kai's young leading ladies. Over actors often performing their own stunts. While they did manage to find a much calmer common ground, there's still a healthy amount of competition between the two talented fighters.
10 The First Interaction
From Season 2
When Sam and Tory first meet, it's at a beach club party with Aisha (Nichole Brown). While Sam and Aisha had been friends for a while, Rory had just come onto the scene and was forming a bond with Aisha. She had also heard about Sam from Miguel, so there had already been a bit of tension in the air. It's safe to say there was jealousy on both sides, and Tory didn't make the best first impression on the more sensible Sam when she waltzed in brandishing a bottle of stolen vodka.
Then Amanda LaRusso's (Courtney Henggeler) wallet goes missing and Sam jumps to a very bold conclusion and accuses Tory of stealing it. Understandably offended, Tory attempts to storm off, but not before Sam tries to grab her bag to check. As Tory fends Sam off, she pushes her slightly too hard and the young LaRusso falls into a catering cart, getting completely covered in food. Though not a full-blown fight, this first forceful interaction was the foundation for a lot of the drama that followed.
9 The Alleyway Push and Shove
From Season 5, Episode 9, "Survivors"
Tory and Sam had spent most of season 5 avoiding each other. Sam was still feeling dejected after losing the All Valley finals, and Tory was deep in the Cobra Kai machine. But, as Tory started to see the corruption within the dojo, and especially how it was affecting the previously sensitive Kenny (Dallas Dupree Young), she had a change of heart. She decided to tell Sam that their All Valley was rigged, but Sam did not take that very well.
In a very skillfully placed cliffhanger between episodes 8 and 9 of season 5, the audience jumps from Sam finding out that she didn't necessarily lose the All Valley fight, to her full-on attacking Tory in the next scene. They don't go at it for too long, but there are a lot of unresolved issues being tackled in the few pushes and shoves that do occur. Tory struggles with how she had treated everyone in the past, and Sam has a lot of repressed rage and trauma she needs to let out.
8 The Roller Disco Disaster
From Season 2, Episode 8, "Glory of Love"
Sam and Robby are officially dating, and Miguel and Tory are a couple, too, at this point in time. They all end up at an '80s-themed roller disco, where Tory works as a waitress. As it's Sam and Robby's first official date, when they run into Sam's ex, Miguel, things get understandably awkward. Especially considering he had been jealous of Robby for a few different reasons before. Having Tory show up stokes the flames even more, and tensions are high between the four teens.
After a few more glaring looks and stolen conversations, Tory ends up "accidentally" tripping Sam on her roller skates, causing her to fall to the floor (again), spilling her soda. Having just had that happen at the beach club, Sam's anger takes over, and she barges into Tory, forcefully knocking her to the floor to everyone's shocked and horrified faces. There isn't too much skilled fighting going on, but the pettiness and excellent 1980s costumes really add to the atmosphere of this classic scuffle.
7 The First Sekai Taikai Meet
From Season 6, Episode 6, "Benvinguts a Barcelona"
The second part of season 6 sees both Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do competing in the prestigious martial artist Sekai Taikai tournament in Spain. Tory defected to Cobra Kai as she dealt with her mother's death and chose to channel her anger through their style of fighting. Sam was the chosen female captain of Miyagi-Do and the rules were slightly different than at previous tournaments. With certain events seeing more of the teams on the mat, the first time Tory and Sam face each other is short and sweet.

Cobra Kai: All Sekai Taikai Rounds & Rules
The Sekai Taikai has finally begun in Cobra Kai season 6, part 2, with several exciting rounds for Miyagi-Do's students to fight their way through.
Their relationship is in a different place than in previous skirmishes and strained for a different reason. Sam was upset that Tory didn't come to her as a friend after her loss, and their communication issues seemed to have reappeared. Their fight was fierce but didn't last too long. In the last episode of this part, they even team up in the final brawl.
6 The Training Spar
From Season 6, Episode 3, "Sleeper"
After a heartfelt reconciliation in season 5, and a peaceful season 6 existence, Sam and Tory were in a rather placid place. They were finally on the same team, but there was a sort of complacency that wasn't great for their training. Each one would hold back strikes and kicks, and neither was getting the best out of the other. Johnny notices this and takes it upon himself to restore the fire that once spurred these talented fighters on.
In typical Johnny Lawrence style, he reaches into the 1980s archive for inspiration, organizing a girls' night complete with a Ouija board and pillow fight. As the night progresses, the two former rivals finally have a real breakthrough as they open up to each other and find true common ground. This allows them to stop holding back on the mat, and they proceed to fight it out in style in a training session at Miyagi-Do. Their expressions change as the loathing is replaced with determination, and the hatred is replaced by mutual respect.
5 The Prom Night Double Date
From Season 4, Episode 8, "Party Time"
Prom night is known to bring drama and excitement, and Cobra Kai did not disappoint when it came to serving up both. With the status of the romance rhombus at, with Sam and Miguel back together and Tory and Robby attempting to make them jealous but bonding instead, Prom Night was always going to become fight night. Sam had spent more time with Johnny, and his devil-may-care attitude had started to rub off the normally more reasonable teen.
When she runs into Tory at the after-party, the two have words yet again, but this time, Sam decides to strike first. As the two throw punches and tumble all through the house, Miguel decides to pull Tory off his date. When Robby sees this, he jumps to Tory's defense and a tag-team fight ensues. Each fighter gets some great kicks in, and the teamwork is a joy to watch. All four end up in the pool, bringing this extremely entertaining fight to an end.
4 The House Fight
From Season 3, Episode 10, "December 19"
When the now villainous Cobra Kai invades the LaRusso house, a full-on brawl ensues. Hawk (Jacob Bertrand), Demitri (Gianni DeCenzo) et al. put up a good fight as they try and defend the homestead. The teens roundhouse throughout the house, as they fully destroy the property. Tory enters the scene in her skeleton hoodie, looking as menacing as ever, seeking out Sam for a re-match. While LaRusso initially retreats from the face-off, she finally stands up for herself to take on her demon.
The two fight with purpose and anger, as they exchange furious stares and palm strikes. Tory wants to prove she is a better fighter, while Sam wants to defend her honor and her home. As the completely illegal free-for-all wages on throughout the mansion, Sam and Tory find themselves fighting in the dojo, ready for the final phase of their fight. Just as Sam its she's no longer afraid of Tory, the boys barge in and break it up, the sense of unfinished business lingering in the air.
3 The School Clash
From Season 2, Episode 10, "No Mercy"
The showdown at the high school had been the biggest scale of fighting the show had seen to that point. As the animosity between Robby and Miguel, and Tory and Sam had reached boiling point, a huge swathe of fights took over the halls, as Miyagi-Do and Cobra Kai took their rivalry to the next level. Hawk took out his anger on everyone, even former best friend Demetri, Robby and Miguel's fight ended in the hospital, and Sam and Tory took their rage out on each other.
As Tory violently pursued Sam, baiting her into a one-on-one fight, LaRusso would reluctantly fight back, trying to keep her sensei's words of restraint front of mind. But, Tory used a concealed weapon and dirty tactics as she chased her bitter rival through the school. The whole fight scene was exhilarating and Sam and Tory's portion was as high-octane and brutal as ever. While Sam managed to fend Tory off, both fighters retained physical and emotional scars from this fight for a long time.
2 The Fight Through Grief
From Season 6, Episode 5, "The Best of the Best"
Though Tory and Sam were in a good place on a personal level, they had started preparing to fight for the Miyagi-Do female captaincy to represent the dojo at the Sekai Taikai tournament. This particular rivalry between the two was quite healthy considering their complicated past, and they were set for a fair and unbiased face-off on the mat. With both fighters in fine physical form, one had unfortunately just suffered some distressing news. Tory's mother, who had been fighting cancer, had unexpectedly ed away after a period of seemingly feeling better.
This came as a massive shock and a source of extreme pain to Tory, who had already been through so much hardship in her life. As she tries to grapple with her huge loss, she feels the need to turn to what had helped her in the past. To let it all out in a fight. However, this particular way of dealing with grief could potentially be very dangerous, especially with someone as strong as Tory. As their sparring intensifies, Amanda gets the news of what had happened to Tory's mom, and gets Daniel to stop the fight. It was a heartbreaking display from Peyton List, who played the anger, helplessness, and confusion so well in this scene.
1 The All-Valley Fight
Season 4, Episode 10, "The Rise"
By the time Sam and Tory were set to meet on the mat of the All-Valley tournament, they had been through a lot. Violent brawls in the school halls and even at home, messy relationship issues, and a tense dislike for one another that just could not be quashed. The stakes were higher than ever. On a personal level, each fighter wanted tangible proof that they were officially superior to the other, and there's no better way of doing that than by winning a karate tournament. On a team level, this match was the decider to see which dojo won the All-Valley competition.

Cobra Kai: What Fighting Style Sam Used Against Tory
In her All Valley fight with Tory Nichols, Sam LaRusso created her own hybrid style of karate and she embodied the true theme of Cobra Kai season 4.
Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do were tied, with fighters from both groups going through their own rivalries on the mat and beyond. Daniel and Johnny had united against Kreese and Silver, and it was down to Sam and Tory to win or lose the deciding match. It was a nerve-racking fight, with plenty of great shots and blocks, and even an illegal elbow to the eye. Sam was more poised and focused, while Tory was keen and combative. Ultimately, the trophy went to Tory and Cobra Kai. It later transpired that the referee had been bribed by Silver to call the match in his favor, so it's still a mystery as to who the real winner of this would have been.
