Warning: Spoilers ahead for Cobra Kai season 6, part 3!end of Cobra Kai season 6 finally settles various debates that have raged since the show's inception, and the Sekai Taikai's winners are just one example of a topic finally being put to bed. That being said, Miguel and Tory's supremacy had already been quietly teased.
Miguel and Tory both came crashing into the story at separate points, and their respective arcs quickly made them some of the most compelling Miguel has fought with Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan) several times in various settings. However, it's the officially logged fights rather than the impromptu clashes that arguably count the most.
Tory And Miguel Are Both Undefeated Champions In Cobra Kai
No other Cobra Kai fighter can say this
Away from the spontaneous off-the-mat fights that happen throughout Cobra Kai, Miguel and Tory's victories in bona fide tournaments place them above their fellow fighters who have trained with the dojo. In short, neither fighter has lost in a tournament final. Miguel's first championship came in Cobra Kai season 1, when he defeated Robby (who was fighting for Miyagi-Do) in the All Valley. Sadly, Miguel fell to Hawk (Jacob Bertrand) in Cobra Kai season 4's All Valley, but only because he aggravated his spinal injury while executing a complex air kick. So, he didn't reach the final and wasn't defeated.
Even Johnny Lawrence lost the 1984 All Valley against Daniel LaRusso, after winning the previous two years.
Miguel's victory in the male category in Cobra Kai's Sekai Taikai won him his second title, although it could have been his third if he hadn't crashed out of season 4's All Valley. Similarly, Tory has entered and won one All Valley, and also took the title in the female category at the Sekai Takai. There aren't any other Cobra Kai fighters in the entire franchise who can boast this undefeated championship plaudit. Miguel arguably "lost" the All Valley in which he was injured, but it would be unfair to hold that against him. Plus, it wasn't in the final.
Miguel And Tory Have Been Cobra Kai’s Top Fighters Since The Beginning
Cobra Kai quickly brought both characters to the peak of their strength
Miguel is the first student of Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) after the latter revives the Cobra Kai dojo in season 1. In a slightly more believable iteration of Daniel LaRusso's (Ralph Macchio) arc from the original Karate Kid movie, Maridueña's character quickly becomes a fierce and disciplined fighter in a short space of time. He also quickly regains his ability after each of his serious injuries, and he's quite often the favorite in all fights on and off the mat. At times, it becomes a little murky about whether other male fighters have sured him, but that never quite happens.

Tory enters Cobra Kai in season 2, and has a similarly meteoric rise to the top. Like Miguel, her tenure at Cobra Kai is fueled by anger, but a different sort from her fellow dojo mate. She tends to channel all her negative emotions into fighting, which suits the Cobra Kai ethos incredibly well. Miguel also begins Cobra Kai in a bad emotional place, but Tory takes things to a whole new level because of her immense hardship. Even during their respective tenures as Miyagi-Do fighters, neither character ever fully embraces Daniel's defensive teachings, and they remain formidable.
Cobra Kai Couldn’t Have Picked Better Sekai Taikai Champions
Miguel and Tory were the most deserving winners of the show's final tournament
Canonically, there were other options for who could have won the Sekai Taikai. For instance, Hawk was long portrayed as the show's best male fighter, but he was gradually sidelined by the writers and became less and less of a factor. Similarly, Samantha LaRusso (Mary Mo) and Robby being named Miyagi-Do team captains pretty much set them up to be the ones lifting the Sekai Taikai trophy at the end of Cobra Kai season 6. However, from a storytelling perspective, having Miguel and Tory seeing out the show as champions was incredibly fitting.
Miguel returning as a Cobra Kai fighter after leaving Miyagi-Do was the best option when it came to how he could help Johnny reclaim the dojo's name and reputation.
As Amanda LaRusso (Courtney Henggeler) points out, Tory suffers a great many setbacks throughout the show, but she always manages to bounce back. Although she isn't always painted as the hero, Tory's actions are perhaps understandable given the amount of stress and pressure she experiences on a day-by-day basis. Having her topple the highly unlikable Rayna Vallandingham's Zara Malik to win the Sekai Taikai was a perfect moment of redemption. Similarly, Miguel returning as a Cobra Kai fighter after leaving Miyagi-Do was the best option when it came to how he could help Johnny reclaim the dojo's name and reputation.
How Robby And Sam Compare To The Sekai Taikai Champions
Robby and Sam were very close seconds to Miguel and Tory
Miyagi-Do's Sekai Taikai team captains both stood a great chance of advancing to the final and winning, but neither of them made it. That being said, neither Robby nor Sam's abilities were lacking, and they both had different scenarios that led to their Sekai Taikai exits. Robby's loss to Axel Kovačević (Patrick Luwis) is a heartbreakingly forced event when Axel listens to his villainous teacher, Lewis Tan's Sensei Wolf, and intentionally injures Robby's leg. As such, Buchanan's character was forced to retire, and Miguel had the advantage because Luwis' character refused to play dirty in the final.
Sam and Robby both ended Cobra Kai without winning a tournament.
Wolf's unsportsmanlike coaching makes it tricky to know if Robby could have done what Miguel did and won against Axel in a fair fight. Despite being the underdog by a long way, Robby found himself going blow-for-blow with Axel. So, if things had gone slightly differently, Robby could have emerged as the victor. Sadly, this is now impossible to prove, and Miguel retains the title of the superior fighter - at least in the context of official statistics.

All 13 Tournaments In Karate Kid & Cobra Kai (& Who Won)
Here is a timeline of all the karate tournaments from the Karate Kid franchise that have been the source & drivers of many overarching conflicts.
Sam is in a similar position to Robby, as her fight against Tory in the Sekai Taikai semi-final never went ahead as planned. In fact, it never happened at all. Instead, Sam chose not to compete and retired from the tournament, with nothing left to prove to herself or others. Although this aligns perfectly with the Miyagi-Do philosophy, it robs viewers of the chance to see who would have won this final bout of Sam vs. Tory. The clash could have gone either way, but it's perhaps Tory's decision to keep fighting that makes her Cobra Kai's best female combatant.
