In its Q1 2022 financial results, publisher Activion Blizzard Modern Warfare 2 leaks made the rounds late in summer 2021, with reputable leakers claiming developer Infinity Ward's progress was way ahead of schedule. Industry insider Tom Henderson chimed in not too long thereafter to corroborate the Modern Warfare sequel claim.
Several other rumors have hit the web in the months since then, many of them suggesting the follow-up to Call of Duty's 2019 hit would revolve around drug cartels. Activision and developer Infinity Ward confirmed some of the chatter in February and shut down reports that next year's Call of Duty adventure may not release on time. Without offering specifics, Activision reiterated in its quarterly financial report that Infinity Ward is leading development on a sequel to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019). The new entry will hit store shelves sometime this year, the publisher added while referring to the title as the "most advanced experience" in series history. Whatever the case may be, Activision appears confident in the latest adventure being cooked up by the crew at Infinity Ward.
Given players can expect a CoD: Warzone sequel to arrive, however.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 should arrive later this year.
