The Boruto series have had their fair share of compelling villains, but Boruto: Two Blue Vortex's reintroduction to Code is another reminder that he's the worst villain the entire franchise has had. Code's goal has been one that many antagonists in the series have pursued; becoming a God by consuming a chakra fruit from the God Tree. While Code's plans and abilities do seem like something to be feared, the Boruto antagonist has been thwarted in almost every one of his plans, leaving him as a total embarrassment on the battlefield. Boruto Part 2 was no different.

Boruto likes to remind its fans that Code's strength and abilities are supposed to exceed Jigen's and Naruto's. However, since he was introduced as a member of the Secret Society Kara, most of Code's plans and fights have ended embarrassingly for the fashionable villain. Even with his limiters removed and given the time to train and improve during Boruto's three-year time skip, Boruto's arrival in chapter #1 instantly removed any intimidating feelings readers should have for Code once again.

Boruto Tells Fans Code is Strong But Never Shows It

Manga s from Boruto Two Blue Vortex show Code threatening Sarada before Boruto arrives with his foot on Code's face.

After failing to capture Boruto or Kawaki during the time skip, Code decided to lure Boruto out of hiding by attacking Konoha and Sarada. While the plan technically worked and brought the fugitive Boruto out of hiding, it also brought the True Son of the Seventh Hokage's foot onto Code's face. This is far from the first time the current Kara leader's plans have backfired significantly and made it challenging for readers to fear the seemingly powerful adversary.

Code's hatred and jealousy of Kawaki's relationship with Kara's former leader and Ōtsutsuki host, Jigen, was palpable. Those intense feelings fueled his decision to unleash androids with world-changing abilities in order to kill Kawaki and gain Ōtsutsuki God-like powers. Those plans did not go nearly as well as Code hoped, with both androids siding with Kawaki in Konoha, ultimately making his enemies stronger.

The first significant battle between Code, Kawaki, and Boruto contained several moments when both adopted brothers outwitted and overpowered Kara's new leader. Not long after that, in his mission to have his "power-limiters" lifted, Code needed to kidnap the Scientist Amando. Code was again overpowered by the reprogrammed Delta and needed saving by Eida. Besides being embarrassingly outclassed in battle, Eida and Shikimaru outsmarted Code on more than one occasion. Even when Code managed to have his limiters removed and be at his strongest, Eida's young brother smashed Code into the ground, again making it difficult for readers to take the series' primary antagonist seriously.

Code's Been A Disappointing Villain After Jigen, But That Could Change

Code and Isshiki-Boruto

After fans witnessed Naruto's Bayron Mode destroy Isshiki Ōtsutsuki, it was going to be challenging to find a villain to be as intimidating, and Code has not been that. With each character having three years to grow and train their abilities, there was hope that in that time, Code was able to increase the effectiveness of his powers plus his control of Kara's Ten-Tailed Beast. While Boruto's entrance in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex's #1 was an epic return of the series' main character, it once again made Code look like a villain worth mocking instead of the ultimately powerful villain Boruto's dialogue has said he is.
