In fact, one could argue that a future relationship with Britta would have made far more sense in the series. There definitely were a plethora of arguments that one could make to back this claim up. Their time together may have been a bit scattered, but the two certainly did have a close connection, even if it was more subtle as the series progressed. Taking a closer look into their relationship displays this quite effectively.

She Was The Original Love Interest

The study group was formed because of Jeff's interest in Britta. He famously lied to her about having a study group as a way to build a connection with her. From there, of course, the audience would be introduced to the entire main cast.

Jeff immediately was attracted to Britta before anybody else. Although she was openly against the idea of dating, she would begin to warm up to the idea as she learned more about Jeff.

They Were Very Similar

The beginning of the series would display just how similar Jeff and Britta were. They both were clearly pessimistic, but also showed a lot of signs of being intelligent as well. This would result in their conversations possessing a lot of overall substance.

They also had been through a bit of turmoil when it came to their families, which resulted in them bonding over that. Ultimately, when it came to the rest of the group, it was clear that they were the most alike with one another.

There Was No Questionable Age Difference

Although Jeff would develop feelings for Annie, there was always the looming issue that came with their age difference. Britta, on the other hand, was far closer in age, and it would show in her maturity during the earlier seasons.

Jeff even had issues when it came to Annie's age during the series, so it was a real conflict at hand. This may seem like a minor one, but age did matter to Jeff. Thus, Britta would have made sense in that way.

She Fought For Him

Britta would end up fighting with Professor Slater for Jeff after she made it clear that she hoped to win Jeff back. From there, Britta would profess her love for Jeff in front of the entire school. This was a pretty large moment.

She would end up taking it back in the following episode, but her desire to have Jeff for herself showed there were some genuine feelings there. Therefore, this certainly added more to their relationship saga.

They Both Were Very Flawed

Not only were Jeff and Britta similar in personality, but they were also immensely flawed. Jeff was a very self-centered character who would do anything to benefit himself. Britta, meanwhile, spent a lot of time doing things that made herself feel like a good person, instead of doing them genuinely.

They both comprehended the flaws that they each had, but still remained interested in one another at certain times in the series. They were content with the worst of their characters, even if they fought about it often.

They Kept Finding Their Way Back To Each Other

After they stopped seeing one another, the duo would constantly be seen getting back together in a casual manner. This is a pretty normal occurrence in the adult world, but with them being good friends, there was certainly a different vibe to it.

Every time the audience thought their time together was over, they would be shown the opposite. This subtle ongoing theme definitely was one to pay attention to, as it did show a side of their connection that was often glanced over.

She Encouraged Jeff To Reconnect With His Father

Britta was the force that encouraged Jeff to reconnect with his father. She went as far as to help by driving to his father's house while Jeff was hesitant to go inside. She even went inside his father's house too.

Although things did not work for Jeff with him, it was fantastic to see Jeff confront his dad for being a horrible father to him (and seemingly replicating history with Willy Jr.). This was a massive event for Jeff's growth, which Britta should be thanked for.

They Bickered Like A Married Couple

Britta and Jeff also constantly bickered, much like a married couple. They certainly weren't afraid to criticize one another, but considering the fact that they remained close while doing so, fans are left to wonder how deep their care was.

At times, the bickering would be a bit too much for the audience, but that also was what allowed it to be so genuine. It was apparent that the two had deep feelings for one another with it, even if some of them were negative.

They Almost Got Married

How could one forget the fact that these two almost got married? It was a short-lived "engagement," but the two did share a kiss and were open to a future with each other. This should not just be ignored.

Them getting engaged turned out to be a big mistake, which they both agreed about. Yet, had the two took their time to ponder this decision, perhaps they actually could have gotten married.

She Stayed Behind At Greendale With Jeff

The finale would show the entirety of the gang leave, aside from Jeff and Britta. The idea of the two of them alone at Greendale together certainly would have opened the door to a rekindled romance.

Also, in a sense, Jeff would receive his closure from Annie, as she moved away and they shared one last kiss. Jeff has shown time and time again that he was willing to go back and forth between Annie and Britta, so a future with the ladder would have not really been out of the question.
