Paramount releases the first official Confess, Fletch trailer in which Jon Hamm takes over for Chevy Chase as the titular investigative reporter. Gregory Mcdonald's famous Fletch novels were first brought to the big screen in 1985 starring Chase as the eponymous investigative reporter who is offered a large sum of money to kill a millionaire with a supposed terminal illness, but soon discovers the man is not actually sick. The cult film was followed up with a sequel in 1989, Fletch Lives, which was not based on a novel by Mcdonald.

Following the first two Fletch films starring Chase, attempts to revive the series repeatedly failed until finally, Hamm's reboot was announced in the summer of 2020. Confess, Fletch is based on Mcdonald's 1976 novel of the same name, which is the second in the author's series, allowing the studio to reboot the property with a fresh face and tell a brand-new story in the process. Other than Hamm, the Confess, Fletch cast also includes his former Mad Men co-star John Slattery along with Marcia Gay Harden, Twin Peaks' Kyle MacLachlan, The Daily Show's Roy Wood Jr., Lorenza Izzo, Annie Mumolo, and John Behlmann.

Now, with under a month to go until the film's release, Paramount has debuted the first official Confess, Fletch trailer which shows Hamm taking over Chase's iconic role as Irwin Fletcher. The trailer also reveals much of the movie's plot, as Fletch is hired to investigate the disappearance of a millionaire's art collection and ends up becoming the prime suspect in the murder of young woman. Check out the trailer below:

Hamm is best known as the brooding ad man, Don Draper, from AMC's advertising drama, Mad Men, and more recently as Cyclone, the no-nonsense commander of Naval Air Forces in Top Gun: Maverick. As a comedy, Confess, Fletch will allow Hamm to show off another side of his range, which he has excelled at when given the opportunity in Bridesmaids, 30 Rock, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Keeping Up with the Joneses. In Confess, Fletch, Hamm will clearly have plenty of chances to flex his comedic muscles as the smart aleck reporter who just can't seem to stay out of trouble.

The SNL alum brought a lot of charisma to the character of Fletch, and based on this first trailer, Hamm absolutely seems worthy of taking over the role in the reboot. The revival seems to be in good hands with Greg Mottola at the helm, who is known for directing beloved comedies such as Superbad and Adventureland. As it currently stands, Confess, Fletch is scheduled for a September 16 release in theaters and on digital on-demand, followed by a Showtime premiere on October 28.
