Since the second season of HBO's recreating iconic season 2 makeup looks or giving in-depth character analyses.
Amid all of the Euphoria conversation, many fans have come to the conclusion that there are some things not adding up in the season 2 storyline. From characters making nonsensical decisions or disappearing entirely, viewers are enjoying themselves, but are also extremely confusing.
Elliot, Jules, & Rue Didn't Go To Fez For Alcohol
Many fans were scratching their heads in episode 4 when Elliot has the idea for him, Jules, and Rue to go get alcohol and the girls didn't suggest going to Fez's convenience store instead. A fan on TikTok made a video about this odd decision, making the point that their entire friend group knows Fez and that he probably wouldn't have carded them for drinks.
Not only that, but fans didn't understand Jules' behavior throughout that entire night either. Elliot suggests the three of them go get alcohol and Jules excitedly agrees, but then she's confused as to why Rue is drinking the alcohol that she was invited to go get. Is it understandable that she wants Rue to stay sober? Of course. Is it odd that she expected that scenario to play out differently? Fans think so.
Rue Never Even Attempted Her Drug Plan
Rue didn't put the most thought into her drug-selling scheme. Her priority was getting access to drugs and, to do that, she formulated a horrible plan that involved blackmailing high schoolers into selling the drugs for her. Laurie--very suspiciously--quickly agreed to Rue's plan, calling it "genius."
Fans were already shocked and confused enough with Laurie's reaction and many think it was the first clue that Laurie has nefarious intentions with Rue. More strangely, however, Rue had the drugs for quite a bit and doesn't seem remotely interested in enacting her "genius" plan. But if she wasn't planning on doing anything, what was going to be her way of paying Laurie back?
Kat Has Barely Any Screen Time
Kat was equally featured in season 1 of the show and, for some odd reason, has been in very little of season 2. She will have a few lines here or there and a quick scene every few episodes, but her character's part in the overall plot is sorely lacking and viewers have noticed.
Specifically, many think Kat's online persona "kittenkween" is a season 1 storyline that needs revisiting. However, it's not been mentioned a single time in season 2's 5 episodes. There is no depth to any of her conflicts so far and it's very confusing that the show has seemingly abandoned one of the fan-favorite characters from the first season.
McKay Is Gone
McKay was already a former high school student when he was largely featured in season 1 as a main character, so his absence from season 2 can't really be blamed on attending college. McKay had just gone through a harrowing hazing experience, was experiencing self-confidence issues, and had been dealing with Cassie's abortion and breakup.
With just as much substance as any of the other characters, fans were looking forward to seeing where McKay's story would go in season 2, but he was only seen in the premiere and has been gone since. Even his scene in the premiere, which featured a very short talk with Cassie, was lackluster, and fans and new publications have been trying to figure out why his character didn't make the cut this season.
Cassie Backtracked On Her Promise To Nate
Cassie very vehemently proclaimed, "Well, I'm crazier!" when Nate tried to warn her about Maddy finding out about their relationship. When he told her he loved her on the staircase, she walked out anyway--although with a devious smirk. For all intents and purposes, she was acting like she was above Nate and his attitude about them.
Yet, in that same episode, Cassie is drinking herself sick over anxiety about Nate and sobbing while looking at him as she's walked upstairs. Not to mention, when she's confronted by Maddy in episode 5, she immediately starts crying and runs away in fear with all previous bravado gone.
Nate's Mysterious Other Brother
In one of the more odd plot points that still hasn't been addressed at all in either season, the Jacobs family portrait clearly has Cal, Marsha, and three young sons. However, there have only ever been two seen by audiences on the show. So, where is this missing brother?
Cal and Nate have both been going through a lot and are often competing for the role of the biggest villain of Euphoria, but through all of their awkward family confrontations and fights, this other family member has never been mentioned once. Fans have some wild theories, ranging from the son's death to the son being Ashtray, but nothing about him has ever been revealed.
Jules Hooking Up With Elliot
Jules makes a pretty big deal about Rue being friends with Elliot. She immediately gets jealous and demands that she be allowed to interrogate Elliot about his intentions. It's already a little hypocritical that Jules is being overly jealous, considering she's cheated on Rue multiple times and Rue has never done anything with anyone else.
On top of this, Jules infiltrates Rue and Elliot's friendship and starts to have overtly flirtatious and sexual conversations with Elliot: the same boy she was concerned about liking Rue. Then, she starts to try to persuade Rue into a threesome by creating sexual situations in their Truth or Dare game. Finally, giving Jules the lowest bestie potential and even lower girlfriend potential, she sleeps with Elliot after finding out he's an addict, just like Rue.
Maddy Has A Job
Rue made it very clear in her season 1 narration that Maddy didn't want to work a day in her life. She went into detail about how Maddy didn't have any sort of career in mind and didn't like the idea of working. So, it was understandably jarring to see Maddy working a babysitting gig whilst still in high school.
The mother's closet and nice home aside, Maddy would never have known about those things unless she was actively seeking employment--but why was she? She doesn't necessarily have any bills to pay and she got along fine last season without an income, so it's unclear as to why she would want to work now, when it goes completely against her character.
Nate And Jules Haven't Interacted At All
Another plot point that the show has apparently left back in season 1 is all of the drama between Jules and Nate. They weren't one of the best couples on Euphoria by a longshot, but the two were essentially in love via their online personas before they had a large fight about Cal's tape of Jules. This would have provided very interesting tension and confrontation between the two this season.
Unfortunately for those wanting to see how those conversations would go, Jules and Nate haven't spoken or interacted beyond a singular glance on Jule's part and the New Year's Eve party. It's like any shared storyline that they had from season 1 has disappeared entirely, and it doesn't make any sense.
Jules And Rue Weren't At Maddy's Birthday
Such a small detail made the least amount of sense on the show. Up until now, audiences were under the impression that Maddy, Cassie, Kat, Lexi, Jules, and Rue were all very close friends. They go bowling together, hung out at the dance together, and are generally close with each other in almost every scene.
But, instead of Rue and Jules being at one of their best friend's birthday dinners, they were lounging around with Elliot and stealing White Claws. If they're all as close as the show has implied, there was no reason for Jules and Rue not to be in attendance for Maddy.
