The Conjuring: Last Rites is the fourth installment in the hugely popular horror franchise, telling a completely new story while bringing back some memorable faces from the cast of the first three movies. The Conjuring movies have been some of the most critically and commercially successful horror films of the modern era, spawning multiple spinoffs as part of The Conjuring Universe, such as The Nun, Annabelle, and The Curse of La Llarona. However, it’s the main saga that has been most positively received, with The Conjuring: Last RItes returning to the formula and retelling another ghost story inspired by real events.

The core installments of The Conjuring Universe follow the adventures of Ed and Lorraine Warren, two real-life ghost hunters who rose to fame throughout the 20th century after seemingly protecting multiple families from malicious spirits. It’s unknown exactly which case The Conjuring: Last Rites’ story will draw from, but it’s confirmed to be another addition to the Ed and Lorraine Warren narrative, exploring their abilities to handle the supernatural and how their countless adventures have taken their toll on the pair’s relationship.

Vera Farmiga As Lorraine Warren

Lorraine Warren is the more active participant in the couple’s supernatural adventures, often using her psychic abilities to communicate with the dead and understand exactly what they’re dealing with. Although she’s often the first person to offer help whenever a family is being haunted, her adventures have continually taken a toll on her, and The Conjuring: Last Rites sees her pushed to her absolute limits, both physically and mentally.

Cast again in the role of Lorraine Warren in The Conjuring: Last Rites is Vera Farmiga, whose other memorable roles include Alex Goran in Jason Reitman’s Up In The Air, which earned her an Oscar nomination, Madolyn in Martin Scorsese’s The Departed, and Bruno’s mother in the Holocaust drama The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. Farmiga has plenty of experience in the horror genre, having starred in The Orphan and the Psycho prequel series Bates Hotel, in which she played Norman Bates' mother, Norma. She appears in the MCU as Eleanor Bishop in Hawkeye and in the MonsterVerse as Dr. Emma Russell in Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

Patrick Wilson As Ed Warren

The Warrens’ real-life cases have inspired many movies over the years, but it’s Patrick Wilson’s portrayal of Ed Warren that captured him on the screen and allowed audiences to connect with him for the first time. He’s the more theoretical and strategical one in the marriage, planning how they’re going to defeat and entrap the ghosts before rushing into anything rash. Despite suffering a heart attack in the third Conjuring movie, Ed Warren is determined to continue the fight in The Conjuring: Last Rites.

Wilson continues his portrayal as co-lead of the cast of The Conjuring: Last Rites. The actor was already familiar with the horror genre before The Conjuring Universe from his work as Josh Lambert in the Insidious franchise, another modern classic series that pushes his character to his limits. Before that, the actor starred as Nite Owl in 2009’s Watchmen adaptation, Lynch in The A-Team, and Raoul in Joel Schumacher’s remake of The Phantom of the Opera. He is now famous for playing King Orm in DC's Aquaman movies, and he and Vera Farmiga also co-starred together opposite Liam Neeson in the action movie The Commuter.
