Although The Conners’ large cast of characters has always been a problem for the sitcom spinoff. The show began life as a revival of the hit ‘90s sitcom Roseanne in 2017, but transformed into The Conners when former star Roseanne Barr was fired for racist tweets. Roseanne's absence left the sitcom without a clear lead character, as evidenced by its name change.

Although this did allow the new series more time to center everyone in its ensemble, it also meant that The Conners lacked a primary focus. This could become a serious problem in The Conners season 7 as the sitcom attempts to wrap up its sprawling story. According to TVLine, The Conners season 7 will be a “Six-episode farewell event“ rather than a standard season with between 15 and 25 episodes. This drastically reduced screen time means the series won’t have time to focus on everyone’s story, as noted by one of the show’s stars.

The Star Said 3 Hours Was Not A Lot Of Time To End Roseanne’s Story

In an interview with satisfying version of The Conners season 7 to wrap up all of these story strands effectively.

The Conners Season 7 Isn't Just Ending The Show, But 36 Years Of Roseanne - And I've No Idea How It Can Pull That Off

The Conners season 7 won't just end the spinoff, but 36 years of Roseanne's ongoing story. Sadly, I can't see how the sitcom could pull this off.

The main problem that The Conners season 7 faces is a lack of screen time, as even the most efficient show on TV would struggle to end the stories of Dan, Jackie, Louise, Neville, Becky, Tyler, Ben, Darlene, Harris, Mark, Beverly, DJ, and Beverly-Rose in only six episodes. Some of these characters, like Becky’s young daughter Beverly-Rose, may not need all that much screen time. However, others like Mark and Harris, were left in tricky positions by the season 6 finale. Now, they need more than an episode or two of B-stories to reach a satisfying, fitting fate.

Kenney’s Comments Make One The Conners Season 7 Problem Likely

Harris’s Actor Hinted At Unfinished Plots

Unfortunately, Kenney’s comments seem to imply that The Conners season 7 will leave some plots unresolved due to the show’s limited screen time. The star conceded that “It does leave a few open-ended questions towards the end,” which sounds like an early warning that at least some of The Conners season 7’s storylines will be unfinished by its final episode. The Conners may ignore Beverly’s cross-country train trip, Dan’s complex relationship with his stepmother Crystal, Mark’s job as an email scammer, Louise’s school board role, or Becky and Tyler’s relationship.

Simply forgetting about any of these stories would be disappointing, but it might be a necessary evil for The Conners season 7. Roseanne’s spinoff has only a few episodes left and, in that time, the show needs to explain how Harris turned around The Lunchbox as its new manager, whether Ben and Darlene managed to make Hardware magazine a success after purchasing the publication in season 6, and what became of the show’s missing character, DJ. Already, it has become clear that The Conners can’t end Jerry Garcia Conner’s story since there is insufficient screen time.

The Conners Season 7 Must Give Roseanne’s Heroes A Happy Ending

Becky, Mark, Louise, Harris, and Darlene All Need Closure In Season 7

Although viewers need to accept that The Conners season 7 won’t necessarily be able to address every fan favorite plot, the show should still strive to wrap up as many stories as possible, as quickly as possible. ittedly, the show has a lot of characters to cover in six episodes, but it is also called The Conners and has spent the last six years chronicling the lives of this family. It should not be impossible for The Conners to provide everyone with a fitting conclusion, even if some characters don’t get entire episodes devoted to them.

Becky and Tyler’s happiness can continue, and the duo could even get engaged, but their relationship doesn’t need to be imperiled by cheap drama.

For example, Becky and Tyler’s relationship appears to have gone from strength to strength throughout season 6. Since The Conners season 7 owes Harris a major storyline after sidelining her throughout season 6, the spinoff doesn’t need to devote much more screen time to this pairing. Becky and Tyler’s happiness can continue, and the duo could even get engaged, but their relationship doesn’t need to be imperiled by cheap drama when there are so many other stories to focus on.

Becky has already faced the loss of her partner to a tragic accident, the deportation of her baby’s father, struggles with alcoholism and addiction, and numerous relapses. The best way to save her story would not be with an explosive twist, but rather with confirmation that her steady happiness remains relatively undisturbed. This approach would allow The Conners season 7 to spend more time focusing on character growth and less time messing with Roseanne's characters who have already been through enough.
