One of the main producers of the Constantine movie ending, Keanu Reeves is gearing up to reprise the iconic DC role. Over the last few years, slow updates on Constantine 2 have been emerging, keeping the world patiently waiting to see Reeves back as the beloved Hellblazer.
In a recent interview with ComicBook, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who worked as a producer on the original Constantine film and will be back for Constantine 2, was asked about a status update on the sequel. According to Bonaventura, the Constantine 2 script is finished, as he shared the following:
You know it's in my inbox right now. Funny enough, I'm too scared to read it, though. I want it to be good so bad. I'll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane.
Constantine 2's Production Progress Suggests Promising Things For Its Potential Release
With Constantine 2 being a surprising sequel after this many years, it makes sense why Warner Bros. Discovery and the creative team have been taking extensive time to craft the sequel. However, the Constantine 2 script being seemingly done does suggest that production could be getting closer to finally starting. From Bonaventura's comments alone, it is clear that the expectations for Constantine 2 are extremely high, as they want to make a worthwhile sequel.
Depending on how big the Constantine 2 story is, Warner Bros. Discovery may be looking to up the production value in comparison to the 2005 film. The bigger question, however, is when they will actually kick off principal photography, assuming that the current Constantine 2 screenplay ends up being the one that the studio runs with for Reeves' sequel. Since Constantine 2 doesn't have a release date as of right now, that also leaves things more ambiguous for when the world will actually get the film.
It also wouldn't be shocking if the reason Constantine 2 has been taking as long as it has is to see how it fits into the Elseworlds brand under the newly formed DC Studios. Since James Gunn's DC Universe is the main priority right now for DC Studios, time will tell where Reeves' Constantine 2 falls into the overall plans. Hopefully, more news about Constantine 2 will arrive sooner rather than later.
