Death of the Endless Is Finally Coming for John Constantine

First Appearance: The Sandman #8 by Neil Gaiman, Mike Dringenberg, Malcolm Jones III, Robbie Busch, and Todd Klein

Death of the Endless

When John Constantine dies, he knows that his soul is going to be dragged to Hell. Not only has John personally insulted and made an enemy of the First of the Fallen, who is the ruler of Hell, but he's also been banned from Heaven. Once John dies, he only has eternal torment waiting for him. Naturally, this state of affairs has caused John to do absolutely everything he can to avoid death, and if there's a sacrifice that needs to be made for the greater good, John makes sure that he's never the one paying the price. Unfortunately, Death has finally come for him, and he may not escape this time.

When a man has spent so many years running from Death, it might not be possible for him to finally stop and accept his fate.

Throughout the entire story of Dead in America, John has been slowly dying and desperately trying to find some way to save himself. It seems that he may have failed, and he will finally have to confront his own fear of Death. Thankfully, as far as interpretations of Death go, Death of the Endless is historically comforting and sweet. There's no doubt her meeting with John will be gentle, but when a man has spent so many years running from Death, it might not be possible for him to finally stop and accept his fate.
