In a recent announcement, a sequel to Remedy Entertainment's Control Multiplayer Spinoff Game Condor Is On The Way
Remedy & 505 Games' Control Sequel Could Be Much More Ambitious
Despite the announcement, development on Control 2 still seems to be in its early stages. "With Control 2, we'll take another leap into the unknown," game director Mikael Kasurinen explains, "It's still early days, but it will be worth the wait." Additionally, despite the announcement, Remedy has yet to hint at a release date or show the game in any way, indicating that Control 2 is likely far from its eventual launch. Notably, while Remedy is set to release Alan Wake 2 in 2023, the multiple announced Control titles have not yet received any potential release periods.
Remedy's partnership with 505 Games mirrors that of the original Control, which was also published by 505, albeit with a smaller initial budget. However, some small details, such as Remedy publishing Control 2 for PC, are different, and it is currently unknown if the sequel will follow its predecessor in being initially exclusive to the Epic Games Store. Additionally, the 50 million Euro budget points to a game that will be significantly more ambitious than the original Control, potentially allowing for even more paranormal mystery.
The original Control, as well its two story DLCs, The Foundation and AWE, certainly left plenty of unexplored territory for sequels to flesh out, including Control's shared setting with Alan Wake. However, with what's looking to be an ambitious scope, Control 2's release is likely far off, especially with Alan Wake 2 set for a 2023 release. While the wait may be long, fans of the original Control can potentially look forward to more news on its sequel in the future.
