Being a vampire is a bit of a mixed bag, sure you're gonna live a long life, but you can't go out during the day, so are you really getting the most out of it? With their pale completion and the whole bloodsucking thing, they're not the best demonic creatures to chill with.
Their endless appetite is relentless and their capacity to cause chaos and death is enormous. But not all vamps are evil and some are even able to cling onto their humanity, despite their alternative lifestyle choices. With this in mind here are 5 Vampires from TV and films we'd like to hang out with, and 5 we wouldn't.
Wouldn't: Edward Cullen
Seen in the divisive Twilight saga Edward is by no means an evil Vampire, in fact as far as Vampires go he's living a pretty clean-cut life. Choosing to feed only on animal blood Edward doesn't pose much threat to humans, as long as he keeps his urges in check.
But this hundred-year-old vamp still wouldn't be much fun to hang out with, his brooding and stoic nature makes him kind of a downer and would damper the atmosphere of any social gathering.
Would: Barnabus
Barnabus had a rough go of it and is no mean a bad guy, sure he's sucked his fair share of necks, but after all, it's his nature. Portrayed by Johnny Depp in Dark Shadows, he continues to find himself framed for unspeakable acts that he did not commit.
His interest in the modern world would make Barnabus a joy to kick back and relax with, an afternoon of showing him classic movies would be endlessly fun and there would be much to discuss.
Wouldn't: Dracula
iconic Vampire. Sure compared to some of these newer vamps he might come off a little tame, but he should not be underestimated. He's evil in it's purest form and lacks the humanity of other vamps.
He's not someone you should associate with and would make a terrible pal. Sure he's pretty slow-moving, which makes evading him fairly easy but he's just an all-around creepy dude.
Would: Viago
Portrayed by writer/director Takai Waititi in the 2014 comedy What We Do in the Shadows Viago is pretty traditional as far as vamps go. He drinks blood and is into the whole coffin thing. But what makes Viago likable is his personality.
He's got a great sense of humor and interest in the world around him. Even demonstrating that he has genuine humanity despite his demonic nature, and is capable of love.
Wouldn't: Jerry
If this dude moves into your neighborhood it might be a good time to pack up and move on. Portrayed by Colin Farrell in the 2011 remake Fright Night Jerry gets his kicks by terrorizing the neighborhood in the most devious ways possible.
It's not just about the killing and the blood-sucking, he will torture you both physically and psychology. His twisted attitude makes him unique among the Vampire community and one of its most deadly.
Would: Blade
Sure he's only half-vampire, but that still counts. He's the Daywalker the one the monsters fear, thank God he's on our side. With his Blade can take down any vampire that crosses his path.
Although his personality leaves a lot to be desired, and he's not the most easy-going dude you could sit back and relax knowing that Blade had your back and your neck will remain untouched.
Wouldn't: Hellboy Vampire
Featured only briefly in the 2019 remake Hellboy, this Vampire proves to be even a match for the titular hero. Without a doubt, he is the most monstrous vampire on this list and lacks any humanity and is incapable of reason.
An animalistic force of nature bent on death and destruction. Top all that off the horrifying wing and this is one blood-sucker that no one should invite over for Sunday lunch.
Would: Spike
Spike underwent one of the most compelling Buffy the Vampire Slayer, beginning as a heartless evil monster he grew into a loyal ally and hero.
He has humanity and even regained his soul, putting his days of neck-biting and killing behind him. He's down to Earth and enjoys so much of what the world has to offer, even at his worst he fought to prevent its destruction.
Wouldn't: Nosferatu
Holy crap! What we wouldn't give to have this monster erased from our minds. The terrifying and iconic Nosferatu is one of cinema's scariest monsters. His distorted and inhuman body is the tip of the iceberg. His ears, teeth, and eyes alone would scare off even Blade himself.
Regardless of his appearance, he's a bad dude too. Killing and blood-sucking internationally. This dark and shadowy character is without a doubt the scariest Vampire ever to appear in film or television and should be avoided at all costs.
Would: The Count
The cute and cuddly Count is without question the Vampire we'd most want to hang out with. A staple of Sesame Street The Count is friendly and you would not only have a great time spending time with this shadowy figure, but you'd also be able to brush up on your maths skills.
Top that all off with The Count's unique sense of humor means that he would be a joy to spend time with.
