Creepshow was Stephen King's screenwriting debut and, in many ways, the beginning of his legacy on screen—his son, horror author Joe Hill, can continue this legacy. Although two movies had been adapted from King's work before Creepshow was made—Brian DePalma's Carrie and Stanley Kubrick's The Shining—King had no part in the making of either movie. Creepshow was King's chance to have fun on screen, and he did.
Directed by genre icon Joe Hill—is also in the original Creepshow. He's featured in the story at the beginning and the end that bookends the movie.
In Creepshow, Joe King plays a young boy named Billy who is abused by his father for reading horror comic books. After his father throws his comic book away, a couple of garbage men see it in the trash and notice that an order form for a voodoo doll is missing. Inside the house, Billy gleefully stabs the voodoo doll he ordered, causing his abusive father to double over in pain. What's interesting about this is that the original Creepshow has two generations of Kings in it. So, to bring things around full circle, Hill should star in one of the episodes or at least make a cameo appearance.
How Season 2 Of Creepshow Could Continue King's Legacy
The rebooted Creepshow is a series on Shudder made up of individual episodes based on stories by leading horror writers, including King, Josh Malerman (Bird Box), Joe Lansdale, and, of course, one by Joe Hill. For this reason, and to continue his father's legacy, Hill should make an appearance in the show.
Hill's story in the first episode of Shudder's Creepshow season 1 is called "By the Silver Waters of Lake Champlain". It's about a woman who seeks to prove her late father's claim that he saw the monster, Champ, that is said to live at the bottom of the lake. While it's an interesting story, Joe Hill does not make a cameo in it.
Unfortunately, Creepshow season 2 ran into production problems when the Coronavirus pandemic hit the country. Nevertheless, it's likely to be released on Shudder before the end of 2020. It's still mostly unknown to the public what stories are adapted for the season, but if there's another one from Joe Hill, he should star in it just like his father, Stephen King, did in the original Creepshow.
