Cruella writer Tony McNamara reveals what he would like to explore in a potential Cruella 2, including the aftermath of the first movie. The first Cruella delved into the iconic Disney villain's origins, including her love of fashion and her relationship with Jasper and Horace. Although she isn't a villain in the first movie, it does explore how power can corrupt, as she begins to lose herself not only in her work but also in the popularity that she gains.
In an exclusive interview with Poor Things, McNamara also touched on Cruella 2. He shared that he'd be interested in exploring the power she took at the end of the first movie in a potential sequel. McNamara wants to explore how she uses that power and agency after growing up without any. Check out McNamara's full quote below:
Tony McNamara: It's kind of interesting that she ends the first movie, and she's got power, and she's got agency. It's sort of like, What does she do with that? And how in your life, if you suddenly get agency and power, do you exercise it? What are you looking for now? She had this sort of family-versus-past thing going on, [with] her made family. I guess [in] the second movie, I think that's an aspect that could be explored. If there was a second.
How Cruella 2 Can Show Her Step Fully Into Her Role As A Villain
In Cruella, the titular character is the protagonist. Although she loses herself in her feud with the Baroness her friends are able to pull her back to the edge. By the end of the movie, Cruella has taken back the power that the Baroness stole from her, moving into Hell Hall and sending the Dalmatian puppies to Anita and Roger, seemingly setting up 101 Dalmations in the future.

Cruella 2: Cast, Story & Everything We Know
Disney's Cruella is the 101 Dalmatians' villainess origin story and it sets up a sequel. Here's everything we know about Disney's Cruella 2
A Cruella sequel could explore how the power she has taken corrupts her, leading Cruella down a dark path. Although she isn't a villain in the first movie, her descent into villainy has been set up by her selfish tendencies and single-mindedness, allowing for moments of cruelty that shine through. While Jasper and Horace are able to pull her back in the first movie, this may not be the case in the sequel. Cruella buried her past in the first movie, clearing a path for the woman she will become.
Cruella has lacked a true mentor or parental figure growing up on the streets, with only Horace and Jasper as her friends and minions. This could prove to be especially dangerous in the face of her newfound power, wealth, agency, and influence. Cruella 2 could be the perfect way to pave the way for her actions in 101 Dalmatians, as she loses touch with the kindness she once had as her newfound power corrupts her more and more.
