One of the most heartbreaking things for an anime fan is to witness a show with considerable potential slowly losing it in each episode. classic isekais like That Time Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Sword Art Online, and Re: Zero - Starting a New Life in Another Word. However, with how things are going for the Failure Frame, the idea of saving it turns out to be an impossible goal.

Anime fans have a huge tolerance for the shows they watch. Every anime show will always have some insufficiency. However, these will likely be overlooked depending on how strong its plot, animation, or characters are. Failure Frame has been at the core of criticism since its release for several reasons, chiefly the poor quality of its animation. While many fans choose to trust the process and go with the flow, the anime falling short leads the audience to disappointment and regret.

The Subpar Animation Quality and Shallow Character Development Led the Anime to Failure

Failure Frame Failed To Live Up To the Hype Created by Its Source Material

There's no denying that Failure Frame has a decent premise, making fans of the light novel series written by Kaoru Shinozaki excited when its anime adaptation was announced. The anime debuted in the summer of 2024 with a revenge-centered storyline, which increased the anticipation of many fans. However, fans gradually raised their concerns, especially with the series having only 12 episodes. Instead of cool fight scenes that would help engage the fans, Failure Frame gave the spotlight too often to prolonged conversations that made the series boring, leading to the audience losing their interest halfway through.

Moreover, as a seasonal anime, Failure Frame was too slow-paced. The storyline, character development, and action scenes that help lead to the main character's peak revenge moments should have happened sooner than how it turned out. Mimori Touka, the protagonist, deliberately plans his revenge-driven journey rather than choosing to dive into defeating his opponents immediately. While his plan seems reasonable, the unnecessarily prolonged conversations had longer exposure than him honing his skills or using these continuously growing abilities, which didn't help in increasing the engagement of the audience.

In addition, fans craving the series to jump into a quicker-paced narrative isn't the only thing that made the anime tedious to watch. The animation quality of Failure Frame has been mocked and questioned by fans, causing some to label the anime worthy of its title. The anime relied too much on CGI, which was extremely disappointing. The visual inconsistency and lack of fluid animation of the series affected the audience's viewing experience because it resulted in low-quality animation that disappointed them even more instead of hyping up the fans for the next episodes.

Poor Animation Quality Is Not the Only Reason This Show Failed

Failure Frame's anime adaptation didn't do justice to its manga. Fans were not demanding god-like Demon Slayer animation; however, they still ended up dismayed with what the series offered. Fantasy and action series like Failure Frame are often expected to be fast-paced due to the fight scenes that create intense and high-energy moments. Instead, the isekai series featured poorly choreographed battles, static frames, limited character movements, an absence of emotional depth from the characters, and the plot left some unfulfilled, if not most.

The Failure Frame manga fans had high hopes for the anime adaptation of the series, but this is a lesson that the quality of the delivery heavily affects an anime. The underwhelming aspects of an anime adaptation can easily overshadow the goodness that the source material possesses, be it a light novel or manga.
