The Neighborhood is getting its first spinoff after seven successful seasons on CBS thus far, and there are already a ton of exciting updates about Crutch. Premiering in fall 2018 and starring TV legend Cedric the Entertainer, The Neighborhood follows a middle-class white family from Michigan who buys their dream home in a predominantly Black neighborhood in California. Based on classic sitcom premises and anchored by the performances of Cedric the Entertainer, The Neighborhood hasn't broken the mold but has been consistently popular across its half-decade run.
Walking in the footsteps of TV history, The Neighborhood is the latest in a long line of popular sitcoms to continue through spinoffs, and Crutch is already shaping up to expand the show's horizons. Though The Neighborhood isn't winding down anytime soon, a spinoff means fans will have more hilarity to look forward to and there's the offhand chance that the Tracy Morgan-led off-shoot outshines its predecessor. With CBS opting to fast-track the future of The Neighborhood through Crutch, there's already a heap of new information to get fans excited about the series.

Crutch Season 1 Is Confirmed
The Spinoff Is Green Lit
Making the announcement all at once, CBS revealed in early May 2024 that a spinoff of The Neighborhood was in the works starring Tracy Morgan. Tentatively titled Crutch, the series is set to begin production in late 2024 and will stream exclusively on Paramount+. Morgan is serving as one of the show's executive producer, and the show will be overseen by CBS Studios, the production company behind The Neighborhood.
The Neighborhood season 7 debuted on October 21, 2024.
Producing the show alongside Morgan is Owen Smith, who will also serve as the showrunner for the spinoff. Morgan and Smith had previously worked together on the series The Last O.G. which was Morgan's first major starring role since his seven-season stint on the wildly popular comedy, 30 Rock. Season 1 of Crutch will feature eight total episodes, and it's expected to arrive at some point in late 2025. The release of Crutch will likely coincide with the premiere of The Neighborhood's eighth season.

Crutch Season 1 Cast Details
Tracy Morgan Stars As Francois "Frank" Crutchfield
Leading the series is Tracy Morgan (30 Rock) as Francois "Frank" Crutchfield who is affectionately referred to as Crutch. Crutch is a recent widower from Harlem whose dreams of a simple life are interrupted by the return of his adult children. Comic actor Jermaine Fowler (Ricky Stanicky) will play Crutch's son, Jake, who is an Ivy League-educated lawyer. Instead of pursuing a lucrative career, Jake instead opts to provide inexpensive legal counsel to his community. Adrianna Mitchell (Snowfall) will play the role of Crutch's daughter, Jamilah, a free spirit who has two young children.
Crutch's grandkids, 12-year-old Lisa (Braxton Paul) and 9-year-old Mase (Finn Maloney) will have their own precocious personalities. Lisa is described as the family conscience, while Mase is a go-along-to-get-along sidekick to anyone who is watching him at the moment. Finally, the show has added Adrian Martinez as Crutch's lifelong friend, Flaco, who is also the manager of Crutch's flooring store.
Since Crutch is a spinoff of The Neighborhood, it's already been confirmed that some of the cast from the original series will appear in season 1. Cedric the Entertainer will appear as Calvin alongside Tichina Arnold as Tina in two episodes, while Max Greenfield will reprise his role as Dave. The show's titular character is Calvin's cousin, and not his wealthy brother Curtis (also played by Tracy Morgan).

Crutch Season 1 Story Details
A Battle Of The Generations Is In Store
Though quite a few details about Crutch are still unknown, the basic premise of the series has been revealed, and it seems like a classic formula for sitcom hilarity. Following the structure of many of the best sitcoms of all time, Crutch will focus on the battle of the generations and the culture clash is bound to result in more than a few laughs along the way. Morgan's Crutch is a widower living in Harlem who has finally come to grips with the new slow pace of his life. However, his empty nest tranquility is interrupted when his adult son and daughter move back in with him.
Crutch's son, Jake (Jermaine Fowler), is an Ivy League-educated lawyer who decides to forgo a lucrative career in favor of providing legal services for his community. This will undoubtedly cause some clashes between the father and son, and the old school Crutch may find himself trying to understand two different generations as he comes up against Millennial and Gen Z culture simultaneously. The character of Crutch is also somewhat elusive, and it isn't known of he will be open and accepting or close-minded against change. Whatever happens, Tracy Morgan's vaunted comedy reputation guarantees that Crutch will be a laugh riot.
Crutch is a television drama that follows the life of Corey, a young man who uses a wheelchair after a tragic accident. The show explores his relationships, personal growth, and the struggles he faces in his daily life as he navigates a world not designed for people with disabilities.
