A new grappling hook mod for Cyberpunk 2077's mobility options with wall-running mechanics.

As many may recall, the studio showcased the feature during previews such as a gamescom 2018 demo. It seemed a neat tool for verticality, one that would benefit movement and combat encounters. In interviews leading up to launch, however, the developer confirmed wall running's exit from the final product, citing unspecified design choices as the primary reason for the mechanic's removal. A PC mod from earlier this year brought wall-running back into the mix to the delight of many a player, and it's clear fans haven't finished thinking with the movement possibilities in CD Projekt Red's latest opus.

Cyberpunk 2077's Grappling Hook mod from TitanFall 2. Meanwhile, Rope sees the player character swinging from high points and catching themselves mid-fall. The grapple hook also boasts its own set of upgrades, which players can take advantage of by gaining experience points from regular use. YouTube channel Dravic showcased the mod's various capabilities in the following gameplay video, fittingly complete with Danny Elfman's "Main Titles" music from the 2002 Spider-Man film.

Compared to grappling mechanics in other games like Marvel's Spider-Man and Batman: Arkham, the grappling hook as it appears here seems rather rudimentary. But first-person experiences bear their own challenges in this regard, so the modder's accomplishment is nothing short of impressive.

While the PC modding community continues to elevate the core experience with new content and gameplay refinements, console players on Xbox Series X|S patiently await details about the eagerly-anticipated current-gen upgrades. CD Projekt Red planned to release the enhancements in the back half of this year. During a recent management border report, however, the studio expressed uncertainty about whether the late 2021 launch window would be met.
