Cyberpunk 2077 DLC is finally arriving in the form of this year’s Phantom Liberty, and it could finally add a long-hoped-for feature. Due to the game’s infamously buggy launch, developer CD Projekt Red had to delay its planned Cyberpunk 2077 DLC for almost three years - but it seems that the wait is almost over at long last. Back in September, CDPR announced Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, the first and only story-based expansion that will take V and Johnny Silverhand to a new section of Night City for a high-tech spy thriller side plot.
Even more information about Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty DLC was unveiled in a new trailer during December’s The Game Awards 2022 event. The most noteworthy reveal was that Hollywood megastar Idris Elba would be lending his voice and likeness to Solomon Reed, a Night City government operative who will serve as a foil to Keanu Reeves’ anti-establishment rocker Johnny Silverhand. Phantom Liberty will also introduce a new in-game radio station filled with music from Cyberpunk 2077 fans, and part of the most recent trailer hints at vehicular combat.
Phantom Liberty DLC Could Bring New Game Plus To Cyberpunk 2077
CDPR has stated that Cyberpunk 2007’s Phantom Liberty DLC could be its largest to date - and it could introduce several features that fans have wished for since Cyberpunk 2077’s early days. A prime example of this would be New Game Plus, which is currently absent from the base game even after multiple patches and Cyberpunk 2077's recent upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series. CDPR has stated that New Game Plus might not be introduced due to balancing issues, but several players have created their own versions of the feature through mods.
New Game Plus Has Been A Challenge For Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 offers up branching story paths and countless customization options for V, so the ability to start a new playthrough with all the player’s skills, weapons, and cybernetic implants intact would be an enticing way to ensure players keep booting up Cyberpunk 2077 long after the Phantom Liberty DLC is released. That being said, a proper New Game Plus mode requires re-balancing enemies and other elements in the game, and Cyberpunk 2077 was already a massive undertaking for CD Projekt Red to begin with.
There has been no confirmation that Phantom Liberty DLC will add a New Game Plus mode to Cyberpunk 2077, or if the feature will be introduced at all. However, it would certainly add more replay value to the game and allow players to explore all of Cyberpunk 2077’s narrative content without having to create a new V from scratch on every playthrough - something that could keep fans coming back to Night City once Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty launches sometime later this year.
