Summary

  • Picking the wrong dialogue option in the fourth main quest of Cyberpunk 2077's Phantom Liberty DLC can permanently lock out the main storyline and prevent players from seeing the conclusion.
  • Choosing the option "You're right, I'm out." when prompted in a conversation with Myers and Reed, then subsequently confirming that choice, will permanently exit the main storyline and lock out certain side jobs and gigs in the Dogtown area.
  • Refusing to help Myers and Reed will result in receiving a message from Reed confirming Myers' safety, but it will be the last with Reed in the game if this route is chosen. It is recommended for first-time players to avoid this option to experience the full DLC story.

While Cyberpunk 2077's recently released Phantom Liberty DLC has its own fully-fleshed out main storyline, there is one particular decision that can end up locking out any further progression in it. Coinciding with the release of the base game's 2.0 update, which overhauled the many of its gameplay systems, Phantom Liberty includes several new characters, quests, and a new main questline, all taking place in a sizable new area called Dogtown. While progressing through the early parts of the DLC's main story, however, picking the wrong option in one specific dialogue choice can end up ruining a first-time playthrough.

After starting the Phantom Liberty DLC in Cyberpunk 2077, the main storyline revolves around rescuing NUSA president Rosalind Myers in exchange for promised assistance with V's seemingly inevitable death after the base game's introduction. Early quests in the main storyline will serve as introductions to the new area and its major characters, including NUSA secret agent Solomon Reed (portrayed by Idris Elba), Songbird, and Kurt Hansen. At the end of the DLC's fourth main quest, however, one dialogue choice can end the central storyline earlier, locking out the rest of the missions and preventing the player from seeing the story's conclusion.

One Choice In Phantom Liberty Can Lock You Out Of The DLC Story

Phantom Liberty's fourth main quest, "Lucretia My Reflection," is the end of the DLC's introduction, which involves rescuing Rosalind Myers from her crash in Dogtown and fighting through Kurt Hansen's forces. Taking place after the missions that heavily feature the DLC's introductory combat set-pieces, "Lucretia My Reflection" serves as the introduction of Solomon Reed, as Myers wants to enlist his help. Towards the end of the quest, after Reed has been successfully recruited, a conversation with both characters will present one of the most important choices in Phantom Liberty's main story - whether to continue with the main questline, or reject helping Myers and Reed and step away.

First-Time Players Should Avoid Rejecting To Help Myers And Reed

At a certain point in the conversation with Myers and Reed, the latter will say, "I don't know how much they're paying, but you better ask yourself - is it worth it?" At this point, selecting the dialogue option "You're right, I'm out." will lead to permanently exiting the main storyline. If this option is chosen, Myers will ask for confirmation, and the player will have another chance to opt back in. Choosing to say "Made my decision." at this point, however, will permanently lock out the main quest of Phantom Liberty. While Dogtown can still be explored afterward, leaving the main story at this point means that many of the area's side jobs and gigs will never become available to do, and the decision can't be walked back without reloading a save.

A few in-game days after refusing to help, V will receive a message from Reed saying that Myers has made it out of Dogtown safely - which will be the last with Reed in the game if this route is chosen. While it's an interesting option to include, and may serve players who have already played through the DLC once, it also locks out the DLC's story, including Phantom Libery's endings, and should probably be avoided for anyone playing through Cyberpunk 2077's DLC for the first time.
