CD Projekt Red may be getting Cyberpunk 2077. Originally revealed in 2012, Cyberpunk 2077 is an open world first-person action-adventure RPG set in the metropolis known as Night City. Players can create their character, choose their starting path, and make various decisions that will factor into how the game plays out. With its extensive choices and directions players can go, not only is Cyberpunk 2077 different from other RPGs, it could also reach a whole new level of RPG gaming. Cyberpunk 2077 could be three games in one package.
After 8 years of development, shorter than The Witcher 3, another CD Projekt Red game.
A lot of information about character customization and how it affects gameplay in Cyberpunk 2077 has been revealed and can be unpacked from the released trailers and videos. In Cyberpunk 2077’s Lifepaths trailer, it’s revealed that players have three character background options they can choose from: Nomad, Street Kid, and Corpo. The Nomad lifepath has the player’s character, who’s named V, growing up in a country-styled environment in the outskirts of Night City. The entire community is considered family, and when that family falls apart, V heads to Night City. The Street Kid lifepath has V as a lifelong resident of Night City. Growing up in the district of Heywood, one of V’s first adventures in the city involves stealing a car. Finally, the Corpo lifepath depicts V as a counter-intelligence agent for a company called Arasaka. V’s boss tasks the player with killing an upper management employee for the Arasaka company. What makes Cyberpunk 2077 different from other RPGs is that each starting lifepath has the player begin the game in a different place, and the story changes depending not only on the decisions made, but also the lifepath chosen.
Cyberpunk 2077's RPG Focus Could Lead To Very Different Experiences
Another thing that adds to the idea that Cyberpunk 2077 can be three games in one is the player’s interactions with other characters in the game. Who players meet, befriend, or even romance will depend on the lifepath that was chosen. While certain characters will appear in all three lifepaths, such as Johnny Silverhand and Jackie Welles, who is one of the first companions that players meet, other characters may be exclusive to a certain lifepath.
Unlike other RPGs that have character customizations and backgrounds, Cyberpunk 2077 makes choosing the character’s background really matter in-game. The lifepath players pick will not only dictate how NPCs interact with V, but also affects gameplay through the array of choices that players are given throughout Cyberpunk 2077's story.
Cyberpunk 2077 might tell three different stories centered around the lifepath that players pick. The lifepaths give three different perspectives of who V might be. While it does decide the background of the character, ultimately the players get to choose who they want V to become. Even if the main story eventually merges into one linear plotline for all three lifepaths, the intrigue behind the stories of the Nomad, Street Kid, and Corpo might be enough to make players want to replay the game multiple times. It’s a good thing Cyberpunk 2077 won’t be delayed again. Players won’t have wait until 2077 to get their hands on this futuristic RPG.
