How Daredevil's Army Is Adapting The Marvel Comics

A Key Marvel Event Has Come To Life In The MCU

The core story of Daredevil: Born Again comes directly from the Devil's Reign event from Marvel Comics. There, Mayor Fisk also outlawed vigilantes, coming up with his own team to apprehend them. Interestingly, the comics saw Fisk use Thunderbolts units, which have been replaced by his Anti-Vigilante Task Force in the MCU, as Daredevil: Born Again likely wanted to avoid confusion since Marvel's Thunderbolts* — focused on a team of anti-heroes not linked to Kingpin — will be released in theaters in May. Daredevil teams up with other heroes to stand up to Fisk in the comics.

Daredevil: Born Again has shown how violent the MCU can be, but it is far from the first bloody Marvel movie or TV show, with a few standing out.

Major players are brought into the conflict, as Fisk's plan for vigilantes impacts all NYC heroes, including the Avengers. The heroes even gather at Avengers Mansion after Kingpin makes his move, with Tony Stark saying he will run for mayor against Kingpin before Luke Cage is chosen to do it instead. Jessica Jones, another character from Netflix's The Defenders Saga, is also part of the event. Several heroes, ranging from the Fantastic Four to the X-Men to multiple Spider-Men, play a role in the plot in some way. While many heroes were involved, Daredevil was the event's main player.

Everyone In Daredevil's Army In The MCU

Marvel Studios Has To Give Daredevil A Bigger Team

Kingpin is unleashed by the end of the season, back to killing and now having full control of the city, with every vigilante outlawed, and even a couple locked in cages. That said, Daredevil makes plans to take back control of New York from the villain, and to do so, he will need the help of a new team. When talking about defeating Fisk, Matt mentions he will need an army to do so. The beginning of said army is shown at Josie's, using the cover of the closed bar to meet.

After disappearing for most of the season, Deborah Ann Woll's Karen Page returned to be part of Daredevil's army, meaning she should have a bigger role in Daredevil: Born Again season 2. The rest of Matt's army, for now, consists of Cherry, Angie Kim, and Josie. The team cannot do much against Kingpin as is, but their talents can serve as the start of a resistance against Mayor Fisk and his task force. Cherry can help Daredevil track down other heroes who go into hiding, while Angie can be Matt's source in the police. However, the team needs to grow.

MCU Characters Who Could Daredevil's Army In Born Again Season 2

The Disney+ Series Has Already Set Up A Few Candidates

Like in the comics' Devil's Reign, the door is open for Daredevil's MCU army to grow in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, adding heroes to its ranks. Season 1 set up at least three possible characters to the team. Jon Bernthal's Punisher, who escaped Kingpin's cage in the finale's post-credits scene, will likely Daredevil depending on the story of his 2026 Special Presentation. Daredevil's army could also free Tony Dalton's Jack Duquesne, who remained trapped in one of Fisk's cages. The Swordsman could help them both in of fighting, as well as financially.

Matt and Yusuf Khan met midway through season 1 and set up a dinner at the latter's home, which could lead to Matt meeting Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan. Ms. Marvel is someone who would easily sign up to help save other heroes and free New York from Kingpin. Other NYC-based heroes like Tom Holland's Spider-Man, Daredevil's The Defenders teammates — Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist — as well as Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye and Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop would make sense for Daredevil's army. The possibilities are exciting, depending only on the scope of Daredevil: Born Again season 2.
