Daredevil has brought together a small "army" of people who are willing to do anything to take down Fisk.

In a new interview with Brandon Davis, Daredevil: Born Again directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead explain why Matt Murdock's "army" doesn't include any known Marvel hero. Justin Benson says that showing regular humans offer their help "gives hope," but showing Marvel superheroes team up with Matt Murdock in the finale would have given "too much hope." Benson explains that Daredevil: Born Again's final Daredevil shot was about "the grit and the uncertainty" of Matt Murdock's desperate desire to overthrow Wilson Fisk alongside people who have no chance against him, not about a superhero team coming together to beat up Fisk. Read Justin Benson's full explanation below:

"The dramatic beauty of the tragedy of the season, and the oddly emotionally, satisfying, exciting thing about that conclusion, is that good guys lost. Matt Murdock lost. Fisk won. But in those final moments, you understand just enough that despite the fact that they are few who are not people who are known, the only one in that costume is DD. And there's something beautiful about them just being like, 'yeah we lost, there's not a lot of hope, but we're gonna have the grit to say f*ck it and keep going.' There's something so satisfying about that. And if you had had a bunch of superheroes show up, it almost gives so much hope. That's no longer about the grit and the uncertainty and going forth and just doing it even though you know you might lose, even though you're probably gonna lose."

What The Daredevil: Born Again Directors' Finale Comments Mean

Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 Needed To End On A Dark Note

Daredevil: Born Again season 1's finale could have easily featured cameos by heroes like Clint Barton, Kate Bishop, Ms. Marvel, and the Defenders, especially after the series' overhaul added characters such as Foggy Nelson, Karen Page, and the Punisher. However, such a crossover would have automatically turned the tide against Wilson Fisk at the very end of a particularly tragic season. If Daredevil receives help from other heroes that easily and quickly, Daredevil: Born Again season 2's stakes wouldn't be as high.

Popular MCU movies like Captain America: Civil War, Thor: Ragnarok, and Avengers: Infinity War all end on a tragic note, with the heroes facing failure and an uncertain future. Their subsequent installment build upon their cliffhangers, and their shared storylines are all the better for it. The Avengers' return in Avengers: Infinity War wouldn't be as exciting if the team hadn't split in Captain America: Civil War, Thor's power-up wouldn't be as exciting if Asgard hadn't been destroyed in Thor: Ragnarok, and the Avengers' victory wouldn't be as satisfying if Thanos hadn't won in Avengers: Infinity War.

Our Take On The Daredevil: Born Again Directors' Finale Comments

Daredevil's MCU Team-Up Might Be Coming Soon

Daredevil: Born Again season 1 finale may place the odds against Daredevil and his team, but Daredevil's superhero team-up is inevitable. Wilson Fisk's crimes involve every hero and vigilante in New York. While Spider-Man can't appear in Daredevil: Born Again season 2 for rights issues, street-level characters like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Colleen Wing, and Misty Knight must be opposing the mayor independently. It only makes sense for them to forces with Fisk's biggest enemy soon.
