MCU characters have stayed dead. With a legacy and a precedent for characters coming back after death, I'm convinced that Daredevil: Born Again will undo the death of Foggy Nelson sooner than many might expect.
Having Born Again from being shot by Bullseye was an incredibly bold choice. The character was one of the most important friends and allies to Matt in the original Netflix series, and many expected him to play a bigger role in the new series. This event served as the catalyst for the events of the new show, which has since seen Matt estranged from Karen. This has helped to make the new show feel distinct from the Netflix iteration, although I'm convinced there are plans for Foggy to return to life.
Elden Henson Is Confirmed To Return In Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
Filming On Season 2 Is Already Underway
Elden Henson's character was killed at the beginning of season 1 of Born Again, yet Foggy Nelson was recently confirmed to return for season 2. This is an unexpected wrinkle to the events of the season, especially with this news coming out so quickly after the debut of Daredevil: Born Again. With that in mind, a part of me believes that Foggy's return to the series would likely be in flashback sequences. Karen and Foggy are not central figures in Born Again, but looking back on Matt's past with them could be important for his future.
The showrunners have not confirmed any of the details concerning how Foggy will return. While Born Again is a grounded series, it is still part of the Multiverse Saga, and it is certainly possible that a variant of Foggy could appear in season 2 from another universe. This feels unlikely. What is actually surprising is that there is a comic book precedent for Foggy returning from death in the Marvel Universe. I'm beginning to believe this is what will occur in the new series.
Daredevil: Born Again Episode 1 Easter Egg Already Teased Foggy's Return
The Series Made Reference To A Relevant Comics Issue
In the comics, Foggy Nelson's death is a fakeout. There are several layers to what occurred, but the simple connection here is that Foggy was killed in the comics, stabbed by a gang of inmates, but that it was set up in an attempt to get Foggy into witness protection. Rather than being killed, it was important that everyone thought Foggy was dead, as he was caught up in something much bigger than himself. This is likely what the new show is doing, and there are some hints towards this.
It is hinted that Foggy's death may not have occurred due to an episode 1 Easter Egg. During the opening scene of Daredevil: Born Again, before Foggy is killed, the number 468 is seen on the outside of a building. This number is significant because it relates directly to the story of Foggy’s death being faked, which took place in the 468th issue of Daredevil, listed as Daredevil Vol. 2 #88, "The Secret Life of Foggy Nelson." This hints that he could return in the show as well.
How Daredevil: Born Again Could Adapt The Comics Story Where Foggy Faked His Death
The New Show Sets Up For This Story To Occur In The Next Season
There is much to discover about what Foggy has been up to in the MCU since the last time that we saw him. When at Josie's, he seems to be heavily involved in a case with a man named Benny, whom he claims he has stashed at his home. Foggy is cryptic at Josie's, saying “I’ll keep my strategy to myself, thank you very much,” and making mention of learning ninja moves. This leads to him being led outside for a phone call, which he claims is from Sunglasses Hut, where Foggy is killed by a gunshot from Bullseye.
It could be absolutely nothing, especially as a great deal more happens with the character in Born Again's beginning, but it is strange that Born Again has the same name as Foggy's client. Foggy is speaking with Benny on the phone, only for the call to be a ruse, and for him to be shot by Benjamin Poindexter. Granted, Bullseye goes by Dex rather than Benny, but the fact remains, and this would be a very strange coincidence otherwise. This could lead to Foggy being involved with high-profile cases with federal implications, likely pertaining to Bullseye.
I'm Convinced Foggy Will Return In Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
Foggy Has More Stories To Tell In The MCU
Foggy is too good a character to leave off the table, and I'm convinced that he will come back as the same iteration, and not in a flashback, during Born Again season 2. With a comic book precedent, this story could be executed well, and give Elden Henson more time on the show. The relationship between Foggy and Matt is so central to Matt's character, and having him be absent for the rest of the series would feel disappointing. While his death was dramatic, there are ways to undo it without cheapening its effect.
The show skipped forward one year after Foggy's death, and this has had a major impact on the characters. Matt and Karen have grown apart, but it is important that the show attempts to make them closer in its second season. Their connections could be tied to the reemergence of Foggy Nelson, and the character could have a major impact on the events of the second season. While Born Again has distanced itself in some ways from the Netflix series, it has also valued the fundamentals the series built, and I would anticipate it will do so even more in forthcoming seasons.

When Daredevil: Born Again Is Set In The MCU Timeline (Does It Take Place After She-Hulk?)
Daredevil: Born Again is the latest release adding to the MCU timeline, and there are plenty of clues to pinpoint exactly when it takes place.
I'm not ready for Foggy Nelson to be dead. The character was among the strongest in the Netflix series, and doing away with him so soon into Born Again is hard to accept. After all, there are so many clues that Foggy is not dead, and there is a comic book precedent for the story. Elden Henson is set to return for Daredevil: Born Again season 2, and I'm convinced that he will be returning from the dead. I can't wait to see how this occurs, and how he was able to trick even Matt into thinking he was dead.
