Daredevil retcon, but Thanos’ snap could be the perfect way to explain it. Now integrated into a larger Marvel universe, Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock and Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk bring with them three seasons of the Daredevil series as background. Should the events of the Netflix shows be considered canon, there is a continuity problem that the MCU will have to resolve. Luckily, the MCU already has the means to explain it at its disposal.

After years of anticipation, Daredevil and Wilson Fisk have finally ed the MCU. The former was a brief cameo inVincent D'Onofrio played Kingpin in Hawkeye makes it almost impossible for audiences not to associate the character with its Daredevil version. While significantly stronger, D'Onofrio’s Fisk stills brings the same temper and mannerisms from the previous incarnation. For that reason, continuity questions are raised regarding the last time audiences saw Fisk and the character's return in Hawkeye.

In the final moments of Daredevil season 3, Matt Murdock finally puts an end to Kingpin's reign of power after years of failed attempts. Daredevil makes sure that Wilson Fisk will not try and get out of jail by threatening to expose Fisk's lover, Vanessa, and have her arrested. From what had been presented throughout the show, it is highly unlikely that Fisk would decide to risk his romantic partner's safety over a return to action. That requires an explanation as to why the deal was not honored, but Daredevil being one of the billions of people erased by Thanos' Infinity War snap could provide an easy answer.

The simplest and most coherent explanation as to why Daredevil did not stop Wilson Fisk from going back to being the Kingpin is that the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen might have been blipped. That would eliminate the character from the last five years of the MCU timeline and would explain how Fisk had a clear path in his rise to power. Furthermore, Matt Murdock being gone for five years would very much reset the character's journey as well as his relationship with the Kingpin. Given that there is still a gray area on how much of the Netflix shows’ characters and events the MCU wants to acknowledge, that five-year clean slate would sure come in handy.

Daredevil and Kingpin finally ing the MCU promise a bright future for the characters despite the need for some retcons. By the time the two Marvel icons face off for the first time in this new universe, audiences will finally learn how Fisk managed to escape from his deal with Murdock. A viable solution, Thanos’ snap can easily fix what could be one of the trickiest continuity issues in the MCU and lay down a clear path for Marvel to fully explore Daredevil and Kingpin’s relationship.
