Warning! Spoilers for Daredevil: A Cold Day in Hell ahead!

Marvel's latest Daredevil miniseries has been years in the making, and the creative team behind A Cold Day in Hell are making the most of their new story, set in a war-ravaged dystopian future Marvel Universe, by giving Matt Murdock an exciting costume redesign, one that should challenge the Marvel Cinematic Universe to take his live-action counterpart to an even darker place than Daredevil: Born Again did.

version of his familiar suit, along with an interview with author Charles Soule and artist Steve McNiven, who discussed the extensive worldbuilding that went into creating the series, and the low-point that the tale finds Daredevil at.

While it is still too early to call for an adaptation of the comic series, there are certainly cues the production of Daredevil: Born Again Season Two could pick up on and incorporate into the TV version of the hero's mythos.

One of Marvel's most celebrated storytelling tropes is the "dark future," and Daredevil has certainly had his share of "dark future" stories before, but it is possible that, when all is said and done, Daredevil: Cold Day in Hell will be the best. According to author Charles Soule, the story has been percolating in his mind for seven years now, since he was still in the middle of his critically acclaimed ongoing Daredevil run. Soule arguably knows Matt Murdoch as any contemporary Marvel writer, and now he has a chance to put him to the ultimate test.

An essential part of that is Cold Day in Hell's dialed-in dystopian setting, which finds Daredevil operating in the shadow of "a protracted worldwide war," one which has killed off many other Marvel heroes, and led to a bleak existence for the surviving population of New York City. Steve McNiven's take on Daredevil's costume is an extension of this societal downturn; the cover for Cold Day in Hell #2 emphasizes that the suit has been through hard times, and has been repeatedly torn and sewn back together, and is effectively barely hanging on by a thread.

The Desperate Feel Of Daredevil's "Cold Day" Costume Should Inspire The MCU Version's Design

Daredevil: Born Again made the wise decision to draw heavily upon what is widely considered to be the best arc in the character's history, the Frank Miller storyline of the same name; if the show is going to continue for several more seasons, it will need to find further inspiration from the comic book source material, and Cold Day in Hell should already be on their radar, at least for the way it presents Matt Murdock's costume in a visually potent way.

The idea of a torn-to-shreds, barely-holding-it-together Daredevil is something the MCU adaptation could lean into even further, even if the story of Cold Day in Hell might take some time to make it to the screen.
