Warning! Spoilers ahead for The Variants #1
A lot of the heroes in the Marvel Universe consider Daredevil a friend. But the sad part is, he's a terrible person to have as a friend and he may not even realize it.
A surprising number of heroes confide in Daredevil for many different reasons. For one, he's deeply religious with a strong sense of moral conviction. This leads a lot of heroes to get an honest and earnest response from him when they are faced with a situation they may not know how to handle. Also, Daredevil's status as a lawyer also provides a unique perspective. He can provide heroes with legal advice either about their superhero identity or their civilian one. This doesn't even take into that Daredevil's powers allow him to perceive things about people that they may not even know about themselves.
But there can be an annoying side to this ability as seen in she can’t lie to Daredevil because he’ll just sense that she is. He then uses what Jessica calls his “ridiculous cocoon of confidence” to convince her to show up.
It's almost ironic that the things that make Daredevil a good person to confide in and seek counsel with are also things that make it difficult to be friends with him. Friendship is often built on trust. But that doesn't mean it has to contain 100% honesty. There are times when friends need to either tell white lies to each other or keep secrets from one another. A surprise birthday party or presenting a friend with a gift is a great example. It'll be very difficult to hide presents from or plan a birthday party for Matt Murdock when he's essentially a human lie detector.
And Matt Murdock's abilities can become doubly annoying when a hero gets in a precarious legal predicament. As a hero, sometimes they can clash with the law and skirt the law for the greater good. But as not just a human lie detector but also a lawyer, Matt Murdock might be a pest if he can tell that someone has done something legally problematic. As a Catholic, he's big on atonement and guilt. So although Daredevil can be a great friend as a moral center and lawyer, it all depends on the situation because he can become really annoying about it real quick.
