One detail will prove whether the MCU's Spider-Man: No Way Home.

It's currently unclear whether these are the same versions of the characters seen in the Marvel Netflix Daredevil show, or whether Marvel has done a soft reboot - hand-waving it away with the explanation they're variants from different branched timelines. The actors themselves have appeared divided on the issue, and Marvel don't seem to be in much of a hurry to clear up the ambiguity. They will have to sooner or later, however, in light of reports a Daredevil Disney+ TV show is finally in the works, with Matt Corman and Chris Ord attached as writer and producer. According to reports, Daredevil is a "new but continued" series - wording that's quite unclear. One important detail, however, will ultimately reveal the truth.

It's impossible to imagine a Daredevil series that doesn't use Kingpin in some way, not least because the dynamic between Cox and D'Onofrio was one of the highlights of the Marvel Netflix shows. The only question will be whether Wilson Fisk knows Daredevil's secret identity. The Man Without Fear unmasked himself to Kingpin in Daredevil season 3, believing he had nothing to fear from the defeated crime lord. If Kingpin knows Daredevil's secret identity, it will serve to prove the old Marvel Netflix shows such as  are indeed MCU canon. If Kingpin doesn't, however, it will indicate there is no narrative throughline between the two iterations of Daredevil and Kingpin. This will settle the debate either way.

Matt Murdock on the stand in Daredevil season 3

It's entirely possible the matter will be raised ahead of the Disney+ Daredevil show, perhaps in Marvel's  Echo series, which stars Alaqua Cox as a vigilante already established to have close ties to the Kingpin. There have been rumors both Kingpin and Daredevil are set to return in Echo, and costume designer Stacy Caballero unwittingly ed these when she updated her resume after working on the show. This would make sense; in the comics, Daredevil actually took Echo under his wing for a time, with the two working together against the Kingpin.

Whether it takes place in Echo or in Daredevil's own Disney+ TV show, a Kingpin and Daredevil encounter in Echo is the best bet to finally settle the questions of canonicity once and for all. Unfortunately, in either case the answers probably won't be given until 2023; production on Echo only began in May 2022, and Daredevil is in the earliest stages of pre-production. It's likely audiences will have to wait until then to resolve the MCU canonicity of Daredevil and Kingpin.
