Fans of macabre, gothic horror are in luck, as appears Bunn is crafting a return to the darkly fantastical world for the first time since concluding his previous limited series Tales From Harrow County: Death’s Choir in 2020.
The Harrow County mythos concerns a sleepy little hamlet somewhere just below the Mason-Dixon line which was taken over many years previously by an evil witch named Hester Beck and populated with all manner of creepy-crawlies. While the original series focused on the young witch Emmy Crawford and her quest to save Harrow County from all manner of magical menaces, the previous limited series jumped forward ten years to the 1940s and starred Emmy’s companion Bernice Anderson, now acting as the protector of Harrow County’s population of ghouls (or “haints”) following Emmy’s departure.
Those clambering for more the tradition begun by Tyler Crook of old-style, Norman Rockwell-esque water colors for the series.
Said Bunn:
It’s been too long since we’ve visited Harrow, but I’m so glad that this is the story that will welcome us back! There’s a big world to be explored, and this time around we’re delving into the realm of the fey folk as much as the realm of the haints. We’re going to answer a few questions, too, such as how Bernice dealt with her dear friend Emmy leaving. This time out, we’re ed by Emily Schnall, who fits right in among the good folks of Harrow. I absolutely love her version of these characters, and I think longtime fans of the book will love her work, too!
Harrow County combines elements of classic horror television and film such as beset by unnatural darkness and evil.
What terrifying tales will unfold in Bernice and Georgia’s journeys? Tales From Harrow County: Fair Folk #1 goes on sale July 21 wherever comic books are sold.
