A fan-made mod has just been released that turns Dark Souls: Remastered into a completely cooperative experience. Dark Souls was the start of a beloved franchise and the followup to FromSoftware's successful Demon's Souls. The Souls games were so successful that they started their own Soulslike genre, and FromSoft decided to revisit the first game in 2018 with a remaster. As with most of the Souls games, the title offered players very limited co-op elements, with interactions generally lasting no longer than a boss battle.

Fans who wish they could experience the remaster together with a friend are in luck. The new Seamless Co-op mod for Dark Souls: Remastered, created by extremely popular Elden Ring mod, which did the same for the latest entry in FromSoft's Souslike series. Several Additional Changes Make Co-Op Feel Well-Integrated

The co-op feature already built into Dark Souls: Remastered lets players call for reinforcement for certain bosses, but it doesn't extend the co-op experience beyond that. The Seamless Co-op mod lets fans play Dark Souls: Remastered in co-op "with no restrictions," says the mod's description. This allows players to go through the entire game together with others, letting up to five additional players to the host.

To make this possible, the mod's creator has integrated second player functionality into the game. For instance, players who die will now respawn in the last bonfire where they rested instead of disconnecting. The mod also gets rid of fog walls and barriers, which generally separate the single-player sections from the boss arenas where others can be summoned to help. Several additional changes have been made to accommodate the multiplayer aspect, including synchronized NPC dialogue and bonfires that reset the world for everyone.

Expect Bugs As The Creator Irons Out Issues

The mod's creator Yui makes it very clear in the mod's description that if you want a bug-free experience, you won't find it here. That's because the Seamless Co-op mod is still in alpha and continues to be updated regularly. Players who use the mod are encouraged to document and report any issues in as much detail as possible to help Yui iron out all the bugs.

Even in its bug-riddled state, the Seamless Co-op mod for Dark Souls: Remastered is a great way to the time until FromSoft's next title. Elden Ring Nightreign will be released on May 30 and promises a fully co-op experience set in the world of Elden Ring, allowing fans to play together. Until then, players can continue to enjoy the previous titles cooperatively, thanks to mod creators like Yui.
