WARNING: Contains Potential Spoilers for DC VS. VAMPIRES: WORLD WAR V #7!Wonder Woman’s famously indestructible Lasso of Truth, completely nerfing the iconic weapon and putting its ‘indestructible’ title to shame. However, one theory suggests he was only able to achieve this feat because he was specifically on Earth-63. If Earth-Prime’s Diana had lassoed the New God, the Lasso of Truth would have likely contained him.
Matthew Rosenberg and Otto Schmidt’s DC vs. Vampires: World War V #7 picks up where the last issue left off, with Darkseid arriving on Earth-63 and further complicating the ongoing human vs. vampire war by turning it into a three-sided conflict.
In this issue, he hunts down Vampire Queen Barbara Gordon, who broke her deal with him, but before he can take vengeance, he is intercepted by her second-in-command, Wonder Woman. This leads to a memorable battle that ends with the New God shattering the binds of the Lasso of Truth—a feat that essentially nerfs the iconic weapon, given that it was supposed to be indestructible.
Darkseid Breaks Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth in DC vs. Vampires Universe

The battle between Darkseid and Wonder Woman begins in DC vs. Vampires: World War V #7 when Diana blindsides the New God with a flying uppercut, shouting, “Step away from her!” referring to Batgirl. However, the tide quickly turns in Darkseid’s favor as he begins to brutalize Diana, despite her best efforts. The New God stomps her into the ground, declaring, “Even in your death, you disappoint me,” before leaving the once-hero to bleed out. Yet, in a display of incredible strength, Diana rises, binding Darkseid with her Lasso of Truth and demanding to know why he has come to Earth.
Darkseid answers, revealing that he has come to Earth to end all life. However, it is soon clear that he answered of his own volition, not because of the Lasso’s influence. He dismisses its power, stating, “...your toys won’t work on me,” before effortlessly breaking the Lasso’s binds. This moment is a disappointing revelation for fans of Wonder Woman’s iconic weapon, as it confirms that the Lasso is not indestructible, and beings like Darkseid can easily break it. The revelation would have been easier to accept if the god had at least struggled to accomplish such a feat, but that was not the case.

THEORY: Wonder Woman’s Lasso Broke Because She Isn’t Pure of Heart Anymore
Comic Page Comes From Matthew Rosenberg’s DC vs. Vampires: World War V #7 – Art by Otto Schmidt
Darkseid broke Wonder Woman’s ‘indestructible’ Lasso of Truth with laughable ease. However, there may be a valid explanation for this. In various continuities, particularly those from DC’s New 52 and Rebirth eras, it was established that the Lasso of Truth can only be wielded by those with the purest of heart (see: Forever Evil: A.R.G.U.S. #5 – 2014). Given that Wonder Woman is now a cold-hearted, murderous vampire, undeniably a villain, she no longer meets the "pure of heart" criteria. As a result, the lasso would be less effective in her hands, losing its typical properties, including its supposed indestructibility.
While the narrative doesn’t explicitly confirm or deny this theory, it’s undeniably plausible, making it easier to accept Darkseid’s ability to break such a historically overpowered weapon. Therefore, Darkseid’s feat is less a testament to his own power and more a reflection of Diana of Earth-63 being unworthy to wield the Lasso of Truth. It would be intriguing to see Darkseid face off against a Lasso of Truth wielded by a worthy hero, such as Earth-Prime Wonder Woman.
Who Else Has Broken Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth?
Comic Comes From Matt Wagner's Batman/Superman/Wonder Woman: Trinity (2003)
While it is extremely rare for a character to break Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth, it’s not entirely unheard of. For example, Bizarro—Superman’s defective clone—snapped the Lasso of Truth in Matt Wagner's Batman/Superman/Wonder Woman: Trinity (2003), while Rama Khan, a powerful mystic, broke it in Joe Kelly and Doug Mahnke’s JLA: Golden Perfect (2002). Perhaps most notably, Diana herself has broken the lasso when she was bound by it in the DC Elseworlds story Superman: Red Son (2003) by Mark Millar. Therefore, Darkseid is not alone in achieving this feat, though it remains a rare occurrence, primarily confined to the early 2000s.
