Warning! Spoilers for Justice League Incarnate by DC Comics below

In the DC universe, Superman named Captain Carrot. This happens in the pages of Justice League Incarnate. The book is written by Joshua Williamson and Dennis Culver. The art was handled by Chris Burnham, Mike Norton, and Andrei Bressan.

Justice League Incarnate spins out of the pages of DC's Infinite Frontier story arc. It brings together a team of heroes from across the Multiverse to take on Darkseid as well as the Batwoman Who Laughs. Tricked by Darkseid, the Flash causes a rip in the Multiverse that's now allowing the source of all evil known as the Great Darkness from beyond to spread in. Heroes such as President Superman, Flashpoint Batman, China's Flash, and the new hero Doctor Multiverse have set out to stop Darkseid from harnessing this power from beyond.

What's revealed in the series’ fourth issue, however, is that Darkseid is an enemy to both the light AND the dark. Doctor Multiverse believes Darkseid is the only one that will be able to vanquish the Great Darkness as it seeps through the tear. The heroes originally reject this idea before seeing Darkseid’s army and the power he possesses. Darkseid speaks of despair and the lack of hope and is incredibly intimidating in his presence, leading Doctor Multiverse to advocate getting out of his way. But the only hero to point out the ridiculousness of Darkseid’s argument is Captain Carrot. "Are we just gonna take Darkseid's word for things?" Captain Carrot asks. "We have to give up hope because Darkseid doesn't believe in it? That's bonkers!" All the other heroes take themselves too seriously to see the flaw in Darkseid’s logic. Captain Carrot is too loony, though, to fall victim to Darkseid’s intimidating presence, which makes him the perfect counterpoint to this villain.

Making his first appearance in 1982, Captain Carrot was the leader of the Zoo Crew, a superhero team made up of anthropomorphic animals. Although they did fight mainstream foes from time to time such as Gorilla Grodd and Starro the Conqueror, most of the Zoo Crew’s villains were goofy anthropomorphic animals like themselves. This might be a great explanation for why Captain Carrot is unfazed by Darkseid's presence. He's possibly just not used to dealing with serious villains and major threats. Captain Carrot sees right past Darkseid’s bravado and, for better or worse, might be just ignorant of how dangerous he could be.

A good contrast to see just how much it helps to be a ridiculous cartoon character at times is that one of the de facto leaders of Justice League Incarnate is President Superman. Even more of a natural leader than Kal-El, this Superman is actually President of the United States in his universe. But when Darkseid appears, no one is more distraught to learn that Darkseid is their only hope of vanishing the darkness. So to have Captain Carrot inspire hope even over an actual Superman shows that he's the ultimate reflection of Darkseid's evil.
