Fans excited for Justice League film may be curious regarding the news that Darkseid will be making an appearance in the recut and updated feature coming in 2021. If some fans aren't familiar with the classic Justice League villain from the comics, they may have a few questions: who is Darkseid? How is he connected to the film's main villain Steppenwolf? Is Darkseid stronger than Steppenwolf?

Darkseid was created by Jack Kirby for DC Comics back in 1970, as part of his Forever People series and the introduction of the New Gods. Darkseid is most often used as the primary arch-foe for the Justice League, by way of the Anti-Life Equation, which he believes humanity's subconscious carries a part of. However, where does Steppenwolf come into play, and which DC villain is stronger?

Darkseid is most definitely the stronger of the two beings, as Steppenwolf serves as Darkseid's general, leading the Parademon armies into battle on his behalf. They're even related: Steppenwolf is Darkseid's uncle, but after Darkseid killed his own father and assumed leadership over Apokolips, Steppenwolf had to fall in line or suffer the consequences, which indicates just how powerful Darkseid truly is. While still formidable with his electro-axe, Steppenwolf does not have access to the immense powers the Omega energy grants his nephew. Instead, he leads Darkseid's forces into battle, heralding the coming of his master as they conquer worlds in his name.

Steppenwolf being featured in the first Justice League film is akin to Thanos sending the Snyder Cut will remedy the lack of Darkseid in the recut edition. In truth, Darkseid is the alpha villain, and always will be as far as ruling Apokolips is concerned, never mind the argument to be made that he could be one of the most powerful beings in the entire DC Universe at large. Sorry Steppenwolf.
