According to Darth Vader at the end of Return of the Jedi mark the end of the Sith Order. However, before canon became official, there were several Sith after Sidious and Vader's death, including Darth Krayt who rose to power in the aftermath of the Rebels' victory over the Empire. By most s, Krayt was an extremely powerful Sith. But was he powerful enough the beat Vader?

After the fall of the Empire, Krayt decided to reestablish the Sith Order after its defeat to Luke and the Rebels. Rather than follow Darth Bane’s “Rule of Two,” Krayt created a new system called the “rule of one” that was based on one leader and many subordinates working for that leader. Given their respective backgrounds and abilities, it's only natural to wonder how a fight between Krayt and Vader would pan out. Any battle between Vader and Krayt would be determined by three factors, swordsmanship, force manipulation, and the degree of hate that powered wills.

Both were extremely dangerous fighters. By the time of the Clone Wars, Vader was widely deemed as one of the best lightsaber s in the Jedi Order. Not only did he master the Jedi Fifth Fighting Form but was also quite skilled in a number of other fighting styles including the Jar’ Kai which makes use of two lightsabers. As Vader, although he was forced to adapt his natural style to take of his armor, the drop-off in ability was minimal. Krayt was also quite adept with the lightsaber. His style of choice was the Jar’ Kai style. Indeed, this was the style he predominantly used as a Jedi and a Sith. Despite Krayt’s capabilities, from a pure lightsaber skill level perspective, Vader was the better swordsman.

A lack of ability with a lightsaber could be reduced by greater force manipulation though. Regarding the Force, Vader was practically a force of nature. As a child, he had one of the highest midi-chlorian counts ever. Through his Jedi training, he was able to develop his Force manipulation to unseen levels. Moreover, becoming a Sith, the Dark Side allowed him to use the Force untapped and without the filter. His force manipulation was unparalleled. Krayt was deemed one of the strongest Force s of his generation. Much of his ability in force manipulation arose from either his training as a Jedi or his raw use as a Sith. Nevertheless, Vader’s naturally high level of Force combined with this training, means that his Force abilities are better than Krayt’s abilities.

Accordingly, if Krayt is to win, he would need to make up his deficits in swordsmanship and force manipulation with hatred. Indeed, his hatred must be at such a high level that it overcomes Vader’s skills. Unfortunately, Vader has a much deeper well of hatred to power his strikes against Krayt. That is, in the end, Vader will be challenged by Darth Krayt but ultimately fall to defeat at the hands of Darth Vader.
