Darkseid in a way that no one expected.

One of the most exciting comic book events of 2024 is DC's launch of its brand-new Absolute Universe, and DC has been slowly rolling out details about how that universe will come to be and what it may include. While fans are eager to see new interpretations of characters like Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman, the creation of this exciting new universe isn't exactly going to be easy, and all will be revealed in DC All In Special #1 by Scott Sndyer, Joshua Williamson, Wes Craig, and Daniel Sampere.

In a roundtable interview attended by ScreenRant, Snyder addressed the creation of the Absolute Universe and gave a few hints about how it will come to be.

Everything is sort of lost, except this main DCU. When Darkseid realizes this, and then sort of allows himself to end, and then begin again in this new universe that's hidden from the main DCU. I don't know how much is out yet, or how much has been talked about in of how that mechanism actually happens, but you can look for that in Absolute Power.

It seems that Darkseid has far more cosmic influence than fans first thought, and the death of Darkseid will result in this dark new universe, which seems to be all part of Darkseid's ultimate plan.

In the roundtable, Snyder revealed that every time a new world is created in the DC Multiverse, it takes a bit of Darkseid's essence. Darkseid is the energy that binds all worlds together. When Darkseid realizes this, he likely comes to the conclusion that if he were to die and release all of his energy at once, he could create a lot more than just a single world. This realization seems to be the driving event for the creation of the Absolute Universe, as Darkseid allows himself to end in order to release all of his energy, but Darkseid doesn't stop there.

It seems that Darkseid intentionally allows himself to be killed so he can revive in the Absolute Universe. It's already known that the universe will be significantly darker and harder on the heroes of the world, which is an amazing opportunity for a villain like Darkseid. Instead of trying to defeat the heroes in a universe that favors them, Darkseid has decided to simply be reborn in a universe that favors him instead. It's a sinister plan, and while fans have known for a bit that the Absolute Universe was related to Darkseid, no one knew it was intentionally created by Darkseid like this.

DC's Multiverse Will Never Be the Same After Absolute Power

Absolute Power, DC's Major 2024 Event, by Mark Waid and Dan Mora

due to the events of Absolute Power by Mark Waid and Dan Mora.

Absolute Power reduces the DC Universe into this kind of singular space, while the Multiverse is still out there somewhere. So it's not dead. We're not killing it. It's not like we're getting rid of it forever. But at this particular moment, it's lost.

It seems the conclusion of Absolute Power will result in the Multiverse no longer being accessible, with the only two universes being the Prime and Absolute ones.

In addition to co-writing the major DC All In Special, Snyder is also writing Absolute Batman with Nick Dragotta on art. Absolute Batman #1 is available October 9th, 2024 from DC Comics.

The DC Multiverse has been a major factor in DC's storytelling for a long time. The Justice League even had a multiversal offshot called Justice League Incarnate that specifically monitored the multiverse for any dangers. It seems DC is trying to simplify by, for now, removing all of these worlds. It's important to note that Snyder promises that the multiverse isn't gone forever; instead - and just for now - it's cut off. How this happens is still a mystery, but it seems to be the event that makes Darkseid realize he has the opportunity to create his very own universe opposite the Prime universe.

The Ultimate Universe was a major success for Marvel Comics and introduced fan-favorite characters such as Miles Morales. DC is currently on track to have its own mega-success with the Absolute Universe, which will bring about darker and fresh new interpretations of characters that fans love. As exciting as the news is for DC Comics' new universe, it's still shocking to learn that such an anticipated event has such dark origins, origins that stem from the death of Darkseid.
