Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Harley Quinn Season 5, episode 1In just one scene, Harley Quinn Season 5's premiere, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy leave Gotham and visit the shining city of Metropolis. As such, this sets up the perfect opportunity to showcase some of Superman's most iconic costumes over the last 87 years.

While the end of the previous season saw Harley and Ivy forming the Gotham City Sirens with Catwoman and Oracle, Harley Quinn Season 5 opens with the reveal that the team didn't last very long. Likewise, Gotham has fallen into chaos thanks to the Bat Family having disbanded after Nightwing's death and Barbara being paralyzed by the Joker. As such, this helps prompt Harley and Ivy's major move to Metropolis, where multiple Superman costumes are shown in Harley Quinn Season 5, episode 1.

A Wide Range Of Classic Superman Suits Return In Harley Quinn Season 5

Superman Museum in Harley Quinn S5 Episode 1

Before deciding to make a permanent move to Metropolis at the end of Harley Quinn Season 5, episode 1, Harley and Ivy attend a gala for the new Superman museum that's opened in Metropolis, funded by Lex Luthor's sister Lena (who appears to be less evil and more philanthropic than her brother). As such, the museum is filled with classic Superman relics and artifacts. Notable items include the rocket Kal-El rode to Earth as a baby, the giant key to the Fortress of Solitude, various types of different colored kryptonite, The Black Mercy, the Phantom Zone Projector, and more.

However, some of the most exciting pieces on display are a selection of Superman's iconic costumes he's worn over the decades. Not only are they inspired by costumes seen in the comics, but there are also a few with ties to the previous animated universes as well. Featured in the background of several shots, the costumes are some of the best Easter eggs and references to be found in Harley Quinn Season 5's premiere (though the Warhammer 40K power armor suit as a nod to Superman actor Henry Cavill is pretty cool too).

Harley Quinn Season 5's Superman Suits Explained

Recovery, Fleischer Suit, and More!

Superman's black recovery suit is featured In the new Harley Quinn premiere, the one the Man of Steel wore following the "Death of Superman" storyline which helped his body heal with solar energy following his resurrection. Next is the classic "Fleischer" Superman suit with its black-and-red "S" and yellow outline from the series of animated shorts produced by Fleischer Studios in the early 1940s, followed by the Power Armor suit created by Professor Emil Hamilton in Action Comics #659 when Kal-El was temporarily lost his powers. Last in this first row is the "Brave New Metropolis" costume from the original DCAU, worn by a darker alt-timeline Superman.

The second row of suits featured at the gala includes the red and blue containment suits Superman wore at the start of 1997's Superman #123 when he was split into two beings with a whole array of new powers for each. There's also the white space suit that Superman also wore in Superman: The Animated Series to end during extended missions in deep space. Last by not least is Superman's suit from DC's New 52 relaunch in 2011, featuring black piping accents and a red belt replacing the classic red trunks.

Why Harley Quinn Season 5 Bringing Back The Classic Superman Suits Feels So Right

A Great Nod To Comics and Animation During The Show's Major Status Quo Change

While the comic costume nods are cool, the fact that there were a handful of costumes with ties to animated versions of Superman felt like a pretty cool homage to the Man of Steel's legacy in this new DC animated series. Likewise, the Superman Museum in general is just a fun way to recognize Metropolis' resident hero, especially before Harley encourages Superman himself to go on vacation right before she and Ivy decide to stay. As such, it certainly seems as though Metropolis is about to get a lot crazier and more unhinged than ever before with this new status quo chance for the DC series.

New episodes of Harley Quinn Season 5 air Thursdays on Max.
