The DC Universe is a massive place, there are many far-flung corners of the universe that not everyone is familiar with, and while most people know New Gods. Yet as DC launches its Absolute Universe, the New Gods are going to be introduced to a new generation of readers, as they will play a pivotal part in this brand-new reality.
In an interview with GamesRadar.com, Ram V – author of DC's rebooted New Gods #1, alongside artist Evan Cagle –explained how the powerful cosmic DC beings will play a "central" role in Absolute DC, a reimagining of DC's various heroes and villains in a radically altered new paradigm, similar to Marvel's Ultimate Universe.
The writer shared what makes him excited to relaunch Jack Kirby's iconic creations for a new era, as well as how they will fit into the Absolute continuity moving forward.
Ram V's Absolute New Gods Series Will Be "Central" To The DC Universe
The New Gods #1– Written By Ram V; Art By Evan Cagle; Available December 18, 2024 From DC Comics
One of the biggest comic book moments of 2024 was the remaining New Gods are terrified of what will happen without Darkseid. Asked how his series fits into the fabric of the wider Absolute Universe, Ram V stated:
Very centrally. Part of The New Gods pitch was that Darkseid’s absence is going to create the Absolute Universe. The New Gods have always been in a position where they were outside of the multiversal drama of DC, they sort of sat at the conflux of all of these multiverses. Even though the multiverse is kind of closed off, the New Gods have access to both the All In universe and the Absolute Universe, though they may not know it yet. And so they actually connect the two universes in interesting ways. Darkseid, also being a New God, his eventual fate is very much tied to what will happen in this book also.
With that in mind, if it wasn't already, New Gods should be a day-one must-read for DC fans following the Absolute Universe.
The New Gods will be central to bridging the gap between DC's Prime Universe and Absolute Universe, in a brilliant way to bring these characters back into relevance.
The New Gods are some of the most fascinating parts of DC Lore, but they're also ones that are often overlooked. The New Gods haven't had an ongoing series since 1997, and while everyone knows Darkseid, not everyone is equally familiar with the likes of Highfather or Orion, despite them being just as important to DC lore. Darkseid's death set off the creation of DC's Absolute Universe, and now the New Gods will be central to bridging the gap between DC's Prime Universe and Absolute Universe, in a brilliant way to bring these characters back into relevance.
The End Of Darkseid Is A New Beginning For The Rest Of The New Gods
Classic Characters Return To Prominence
DC Comics has always had an absolutely massive Multiverse, but after the ending of Absolute Power, everything changed. The Prime Universe is now completely locked off from the rest of the Multiverse – eexcept the New Gods are immune to this. One big thing that people often get wrong is that Apokolips and New Genesis aren't just planets in space. It's not possible to just fly there. They can't easily be accessed, as they're outside the Multiverse. This means that while the Prime Universe is cut off from the Multiverse, the New Gods are still perfectly capable of accessing both.

Why Did DC Decide to Revive New Gods? This Year's Biggest Comic Began at Comic Con.
As DC launches a host of new comics as part of its All In initiative, Ram V revealed New Gods' surprisingly humble beginnings at Comic-Con.
Darkseid was part of a balance in the universe. His existence was the opposite of Highfather. There can't be a God without a Devil, and now that Darkseid is gone, it changes everything. The people of New Genesis are terrified that the New God born on Earth will be the next Darkseid, and the forces of Apokolips are hoping for the same. Readers will get to see how this war plays out in the series, which will hopefully give all the New Gods the attention they deserve, instead of just Darkseid always having the spotlight.
