Although The Suicide Squad is already aware of the kind of bizarre heroes and villains lurking in the DC universe.Even those don't quite convey the full extent of weirdness in the comics when characters like The Condiment King and Matter-Eater Lad exist. Internet s could never resist such easy targets for memes and these are some of the funniest ones that they've come up with.
Even Batman Rates The Condiment King
When it comes to strange DC villains, mixing a completely mundane item with a grandiose title is a tried-and-tested method for success. It worked for The Condiment King, a parody of the ridiculous villains that Batman once fought against in the Silver Age of DC Comics, who can now list The Batman's Robert Pattinson among his fans.
Although the supervillain, who originated in the Batman: The Animated Series, is more of a joke character and source of comic relief, that doesn't lessen the absurdity of someone modeling their evil persona after sauces and constantly making food-based puns as they work.
Section Eight Is The Best Source Of Strange DC Characters
When the Suicide Squad can have like King Shark and Polka-Dot Man and the most bizarre TV shows of all time, it's hard to believe there could be a stranger superhero unit in the DC universe. Any fan of Section Eight knows it's more than possible, however.
Brought together by the alcohol-fueled Sixpack and with like Defenestrator and Dog Welder, both of whom live up to their titles disturbingly well, Section Eight is the place where the real weirdos of DC Comics come together.
Kite Man Became A Fan Favorite Recently
The last few years have seen some amazing superhero shows that showcase lesser-known characters come to fruition and one of Harley Quinn on HBO Max. Though everyone already knew its stars Harley and Poison Ivy, fewer were familiar with Kite Man, a classic Batman villain who makes use of kite-based weapons to commit crimes.
His slightly dimwitted portrayal in the animated show won him plenty of fans, who were worried about how his plotline would resolve if his relationship with Harley Quinn didn't work out. It's a testament to how much a character that would usually be nothing more than a joke can win over loyal fans in the right circumstances.
Plastic Man Is One Of The Iconic Oddities of DC Comics
First appearing in Police Comics in 1940, Plastic Man is a classic superhero in the truest sense and, though he might never have reached the mainstream success of some of his contemporaries, the humor that went into writing the character has allowed him to retain no shortage of fans.
With the ability to stretch his body into any form, Plastic Man could have been a very powerful hero but he is much more often portrayed as the comic relief when he appears. That's exactly why he's perfect for relatable memes with a surreal twist, where his ridiculous appearance only makes things funnier.
Even Polka-Dot Man Couldn't Believe He Was A Superhero
One of Batman's more ridiculous enemies from the Silver Age of DC Comics, it's easy to see why Polka-Dot Man became a running joke among other villains in the 21st century given his flamboyant appearance and baffling polka-dot-based powers. Luckily, The Suicide Squad brought him a kind of redemption last year albeit only temporarily.
When Polka-Dot Man does succeed in hurting Starro in the movie's final act and yells that he's a superhero, it was one of the most relatable moments, especially for anyone that dreamed of having superpowers as a kid. Unfortunately, the movie didn't let him enjoy the feeling for long.
Some Characters Still Haven't Gotten Their Moment To Shine
Although the Batman Arkham games gave attention to some under-appreciated DC characters, there are so many more oddities from the comics who fans think deserved to feature in the games. Among them are Killer Moth, a supervillain modeled on the insects in the same way Batman based himself on bats, and the deranged surgeon Professor Pyg.
This meme highlights the fact that there are just so many strange DC Comics heroes and villains that it's simply impossible to ever include them all. It's possible to pick any five and make a hero/villain unit capable of muscling their way into any game or movie franchise.
Even Killer Moth Has Plenty Of Fans
Designed to be a villainous reflection of Batman, as he likewise lacks powers and based himself on a vilified flying animal, Killer Moth is another one of the strange hangover villains from the DC Comics of the 50s. That doesn't mean the character doesn't have his fair share of fans, however.
Not only does the Mothmobile-driving villain have fans nostalgic for his comics appearances but he even has an entire subreddit dedicated to campaigning for him to feature in Rocksteady's Suicide Squad game. It's a reminder for comics fans to be careful which obscure DC character they insult as they may well have a surprisingly big following.
The Sad Part Of Being An Obscure DC Villain Fan
As fans of Polka-Dot Man well know, ing a strange superhero or supervillain can be surprisingly rough at times. Though no one's ever really gone once they're a part of the DC universe, sometimes a surprise appearance or easter egg can be just as sad as not featuring at all.
That was the case for fans of Killer Moth when he was killed off in an Easter egg buried within Arkham Knight. Considering that many hope to see the bug-themed villain play a more major role in the video game franchise as well as DC media in general, it can be brutal when obscure characters are pushed so far to the side.
The Wholesome Side Of King Shark
Of all the strange characters that were brought to prominence by The Suicide Squad, King Shark was one of the most obviously ridiculous of the bunch, being nothing more than a giant humanoid shark. Despite his terrifying appearance and ability to eat a man whole, the character was given a childlike demeanor in the movie.
As a result, many found they couldn't help but warm to the huge aquatic monster, especially when he reminded them of their children in real life. That's why it's hard to argue that this reimagining of the character didn't only make King Shark even better, playing up the silliness of the wild DC villain.
Captain Boomerang Can Never Catch A Break
Considering 2016's Suicide Squad decided to go for a slightly more conventional approach when it came to its , Captain Boomerang is arguably one of the stranger DC characters to feature across both of the movies. Unfortunately, neither appearance can be said to have ended well for the character.
The boomerang-wielding Australian dirtbag may have had one of the more inconsequential parts to play in Suicide Squad but that's nothing compared to his brutal and short-lived appearance in the sequel. Fans will be hoping the rugged marksman gets another chance to shine after two big disappointments.
