Teen Titans, she’s often relegated to being just a love interest. While I’m not entirely opposed to a well-done romance arc for the Tamaranean Princess, I’d much rather see her star in an A-tier solo series that explores themes beyond love first.
While this may be a divisive opinion, I believe Tom Taylor would be a fantastic choice to helm a Starfire solo series.
There’s no denying that Starfire is one of DC’s most badass female characters and a favorite among fans. Yet, it’s surprising that the comic publisher hasn’t put more effort into developing her character beyond being a member of the Titans or a love interest for characters like Nightwing and Arsenal.
While the Titan has landed a solo series in the past that focused more on her rather than the Titans or her male partners, it fell flat for many readers, myself included, and left us wanting more. It’s well past time for DC to make a serious effort with Starfire by giving her a solo series that dives deeper into her character, beyond her sex appeal, relationships, and light-hearted shenanigans.
Starfire Is One of DC’s Most Iconic Heroines (& It’s Time DC Star Treating Her As Such)

It’s both disappointing and wildly surprising that DC hasn’t done more with Starfire. She isn’t just one of the most popular female characters in DC’s lineup—she’s one of the most popular characters in all of comics. This is backed up by her ranking third on Ranker’s list of top comic book heroines, sured only by Wonder Woman and Poison Ivy. This level of fan-driven popularity should be enough to signal to DC that there’s a strong market for the Titan and that fans are eager for more. With both Wonder Woman and Poison Ivy having their own ongoing comic series, you’d think this alone would make a solid case for giving Starfire another shot at a solo series.
The argument becomes even stronger when you consider the three heroines who rank just below Starfire: Zatanna, Black Canary, and Catwoman. All three either currently have ongoing comic series or, in Zatanna’s case, are slated for one. So why is Starfire, one of the highest-ranking female characters, being overlooked? This feels like a significant oversight on DC’s part, especially when platforms like Reddit are filled with discussions and enthusiasm about her. The demand is clearly there—it’s time for DC to step up and meet it.
I Would Love to See DC’s Next Starfire Solo Series Written by Tom Taylor
East Side Comics Will Jack Virgin Variant for Tales of The Titans #1 (2023)
When DC focuses on Starfire, it’s often through the lens of romance and sex appeal, which is all well and good. However, I think it’s time to expand beyond these topics (not abandon them) and give Starfire a solo series that explores other aspects of her character—such as her role as a hero outside the Titans and her platonic relationships, like the one with her sister Blackfire. I would absolutely lose my mind with joy if DC brought Blackfire back into mainstream continuity, especially with a focus on her dynamic with Starfire. Their relationship has so much potential to add depth to Starfire’s character while creating a compelling and emotionally charged storyline.
While this may be a divisive opinion, I believe Tom Taylor would be a fantastic choice to helm a Starfire solo series. Some fans have accused him of being a Starfire "hater" due to his preference for pairing Nightwing with Batgirl, but I see this as an advantage. A writer who doesn’t prioritize Starfire’s realtionship with Nightwing can keep the focus entirely on her. Taylor has already proven he can write Starfire with depth and nuance in his Titans and Titans: Beast World series. His portrayal highlighted her as a total badass, explored her past, and introduced intriguing dynamics, like her relationship with Donna Troy. These are exactly the kinds of themes I’d love to see explored further in a solo series for the Tamaranean Princess.

After 44 Years, DC Finally Gives 1 Hero The Closure She's Always Deserved
The DC Universe is no stranger to heroes born from tragedy, but after 44 years, Starfire is finally getting the closure and revenge she deserves.
I’m Not Totally Against a Romance Arc for Starfire (& I Have the Perfect Ship in Mind)

As I mentioned before, I’m not opposed to a romance arc for Starfire, but I believe she needs a solo series that prioritizes her character over her romances or appearance. Once DC gives her the exploration she deserves, I’d love to see her find love. While her relationship with Nightwing will always be iconic, it’s likely closed as long as Batgirl is in the picture. This is the perfect opportunity for DC to explore fresh love interests for Starfire, and after Tom Taylor’s Titans run, I think a romance with Donna Troy would be an exciting direction— as there’s great chemistry and potential between them.

Sorry Raven: But Starfire Has a New Best Friend and Together They’re Unstoppable
Starfire and Raven may have once been DC's ultimate best friends forever duo, but it looks like Kori has a new bestie and together their undefeatable.
